Introduction
Bethel midtown village is one of the villages in Athens-Clarke County. Residents are living under massive poverty conditions. Most of the residents earn low income that does not support efficient sustainability. Also, most of the households live in poor environmental conditions as a result of inadequate housing facilities. Poverty often results in criminal activities since they find crime and an alternative way of obtaining a living. Therefore, the county’s government of Athens has a role to play in saving this village from its level of low-managed poverty. Bethel Midtown Village Redevelopment project is a project initiated to mitigate these challenges. Through the project, many individuals from different fields of professions can gain a positive influence.
How the project works
Considering the desired reconstruction of Bethel midtown village, Bethel Midtown Village Redevelopment project is focused on building more affordable and sufficient houses in the village. The project is focused on Bethel because of the known extreme poverty accompanied by several crimes. This will favor low-income households since they will pay cheap rent. Apart from the low-income households, the project is also designed to cover for individuals under other vulnerable conditions such as old age and disabilities. For instance, a low-income person in Athens is forced to sleep in a temporary structure such as demolished houses just because he or she cannot afford a house. Therefore, the project is focused on solving problems for such people. In support of the project, Russel has lowered rent for his tenants living in his apartment. This makes more people comfortable since they have where to live.
In implementing the project, the Athens-Clarke County government, Athens housing authority, Columbia Residential, and the Jonathan Rose Companies will be involved in providing the necessary support. The underlying government will spend forty million dollars to reimburse the requirements of the project. This was decided after the government consulted the taxpayers. Specifically, the money will be used to build a complex consisting of more affordable and quality housing structures for both vulnerable and low-income households living in the village. The project will also be involved in the improvement of the existing poor structures. The project will give the first priority to the indigenous inhabitants. Consequently, it is expected that the project will result in a more economically viable Bethel.
However, it may take some longer time for the project to bear results. This is evident in the process that will be taken in undertaking it. According to the executive director off AHA, Rich Parcker, it is necessary to conduct several meetings so as to boost transparency between individuals. Based on the desire to receive feedback from the residents, Packer said that the residents would be involved in the project. These residents were to play an oversight role as the desired, and planned activities continue. In realization of the poverty status of these individuals, everyone involved is to receive a transport reimbursement. Furthermore, According to Packer, the rent to be paid on the newly constructed houses should remain low, no matter the quality. Generally, the residents of Bethel have an opportunity of weighing and raising their discussions concerning the project. In the end, they are going to enjoy the results of the project since they will be living in better-built houses while paying low rent prices.
Influence and contribution of the project to my professional practice
The project has a great impact on several individuals from different professional fields. As a project manager by profession, the Bethel midtown village redevelopment project is significant to me. The project undertaking endows me with several qualities that I need to work efficiently under my occupation. Firstly, the project makes me a good decision-maker. The problem in Beth midtown village may have had several solutions. However, the Athens-Clarke County government working with other relevant authorities made a decision to focus on the housing facilities in the village. Furthermore, the county gave priority to Bethel village, considering the existing situation. The decision was more appropriate since getting access to affordable and high-quality shelter structures will allow for the mitigation of both poverty and crimes in the village. Therefore, I am enlightened by the project that this critical thinki9ng and good decision making is an essential feature in my profession.
Secondly, through the project, I have developed a character of fairness. Based on the project, the house building is focused on supporting the low-0income household and those with worse life situations in society. This was fair since they will then be able to live a comfortable life and conform to the rising economic demand in Athens. Therefore, I am able to treat employees, stakeholders, and other business partners fairly. Through this, I hope to build good and working relationships with the individuals and companies, thus working towards the success of my plans.
Being more responsible is another aspect that results from the influence of the project. For instance, Athens-Clarke county government is responsible for handling poverty, crime, and other issues within its boundaries, with it being responsible in funding the Bethel midtown redevelopment project, it is deemed to succeed in mitigating poverty and crime way of life. Also, it took the responsibility of working with the housing activities to ensure the success of the project. Therefore, knowing the end product of responsibility, my responsibility as a project manager has gained a positive influence.
Lastly, the project has impacted my competency and negotiation skills while in my professional field. The agreement between the Athens-Clarke County government, Colombia residential, and Athens Housing authority resulted from a good negotiation. The negotiation involved the public who voted for the implementation of the redevelopment project before the government’s approval. Therefore, I am able to consider negotiating with business partners as a way of becoming more successful in my field of the profession while influencing the rest.
Conclusion
In conclusion, several households living in Bethel midtown village live under extreme poverty. Poor residents often get involved in criminal activities to earn a living. Despite Bethel being the worst, several villages within Athens’s boundaries have the same problem. To solve the problem of poverty and Crime-based situations, Bethel midtown redevelopment project is implemented. The project is focused on improving the living standard of the households living in the village. This is possible through the building of cheap and high-quality rental houses. With these, low-income households can, therefore, manage to do a few businesses to raise living. On the other hand, the old and those living with disabilities will attain comfortability. Generally, the implementation and the undertaking of the project have boosted the realization of necessary qualities in my profession. These qualities are fairness, responsibility, good decision making, competency, and good negotiation skills, among others.
