Bipartisan Neoliberal Policies.
How have bipartisan neoliberal policies in the United States since the 1970s contributed to the conditions people in the US live through and protest against today?
Neoliberalism can be termed as a new style of making people free by protecting their interests. Bipartisanship is when two opposing political parties agree to compromise a few of their interests to make agreed policies that are favorable for both of them. In 1970, the US took these steps to ensure the interests of all citizens of America are catered for, having had several complaints of racism that was dividing the nation (“POLICY PLATFORMS – M4BL”, 2020).
Years later, many political scholars have claimed that this method of ruler-ship was never egalitarian. Some describe it as an insult. They put in place measures to make the vulnerable population feel not left out, but the reality is that they were being discriminated against out righty. The policies put in place were only useful to the high and mighty of society. It did not put in place any policy that would help the underdogs (“W. W. Norton & Co.,” 2020).
Modern liberalists claim that liberty is in the access of necessities like medical care and employment opportunities fairly. For this reason, liberalism has become such a dominant political ideology that has continued to attract the interests of many people. Liberalism ambassadors came up with new visions for achieving social, economic, and political liberalism for all persons (Igoe & Brockington, 2007). They started becoming anti-communist and aimed at having a free world that would speedily grow economically and thus have public resources, health, and education distributed equally.
At the time when African Americans were feeling disadvantaged, their self-proclaimed liberalists were advocating for their grievances in civil rights movements (Chomsky, 1999). They put civil rights at the top of their political agenda quest, but this quest has continued to be strained, with not much being achieved.
Since 1970, there have been efforts to develop policies to ensure every citizen feels at home in their country and animosity almost an entity created between the two conflicting groups. In order to solve these issues, new approaches should be used to reach better solutions.
