Black Violin-Broward Center Performing Arts Florida Jan 25th, 2018

One thing that was unique about Black Violin Concert that took place in Broward Center Performing Arts in Florida 2018 25th Jan was that the group performed with a lot of energy that entertained the audience. 80% of the performance involved the audience by either clapping to their rhythms, among others. The stage was set informal way which suited the requirements of all performance. In as much as there was Back to back performance, most of them were interesting. It composed of formal yet unique from the well-establish stage plot, which had an average height allowing every audience to have a look of what is going in the arena. There was a center stage with a chair in addition to an adequate sound system present.

It involved both a young and old audience of all genders. The group, however, was of 18 years and above. The concert lasted for one hour, thirty-four minutes and fifty-five seconds. My favorite performance was KeV Marcus and Wil B’s introduction performance. Individuals who met while playing the violin in high school had a unique background of all colors, which caught the attention of the audience. The title of the song performed was Stereotypes, which belongs to the classical genre. The arrangers are Kevin Sylvester and Wilner Baptiste.

How the two players incorporated the two instruments captured my attention. I love the way the classically trained string instrumentalists Wilner Baptiste and Kevin Sylvester play the viola and violin, respectively. Their performance extends beyond the stage. They are indeed Neptune, who enjoy the art of musical instruments. While performing  Stereotypes, Kevin and Wilner incorporated fast and slow tempos. The tempo is considered the essential aspect of music that expresses emotions of sadness and excitement at the same time. That necessitates the audience’s perception of the theme involved in Stereotype Song. Having required fast and then slow tempo, the song ends up denoting aspects of gentle melodic contour. The melodies attract the tension of the audience through the quality of movements initiated through the viola and violin used.

Other than the involvement of viola and violin, the two incorporated a drum where they had a different person introducing them to the audience through drum-beating; caught the attention of the audience. The dynamics were generally medium. I loved the violin and viola incorporation, not forgetting the drum beatings that caught my attention in addition to the viola and violin. That expressed the different emotions as well as basic movements during performance. The type of ensemble included orchestra, concert band, and jazz ensemble for effective performance.

Moreover, my least favorite composition performed was violin SPS solo performance by Wang Chan Ellie, who the arranger was Jimmy Edison. The concert was prolonged, involving only the piano and the viola. Other than having an average mix of tempos from fast, slow, and medium, the violin sound came out with a boom pressure in addition to bow speed, which made the audience I included to become bored. The tempo was not balanced. It shifted quickly from slow to fast and medium failing to give the audience time to balance between the different emotions conjoined. The melodic contour was a conjunct one. It rose and falls quickly with only one pitch changing between one note and the other. Due to scalar motion, there was a poor balance between the tempo and melody. However, the dynamics involved were piano composed of soft and loud waves that capture the attention of the audience at some moment. The involvement of the violin and the piano, in addition to the movement, caught my attention, especially during its climax.

Wang utilized the piano and the violin to create emotion and to help the audience understand the different intervals happening in the performance. On evaluation, I would say that it was an excellent performance in which I was not only educated but also entertained. I even managed to meet new people with whom I communicate with still. It was an effective platform that brought various violinists together to weight their potential in addition to learning. The first , for instance, educated groups on the essence of giving back to society. The two had earlier on performed in the same venue, and they were now giving back to the community.

Additionally, I enjoyed Black Violin Cover, the “Imagine Dragons-Thunder” song. The hit echoes of which emphasize accurate to self and respecting the same to others captured my attention. Indeed, it flooded my brain with pleasure, motivation, and reward for the time spent watching the video. The melody, the singer, the lyrics are all unique with a fresh mix of harmony and rhythm. Therefore I would recommend to others the music I had in this concert especially Imagine Dragons-Thunder cover, which has a chord progression progressing from fragile to strong, a steady harmonic rhythm, and a strong relationship between melodic shape, chords, and lyrics.
