Bolivar’s vision of a New Republic of Granada
The current political system in force now in a country relates to the one that was prevailing in the past. Analysis of political history gives insight into the extent of influence the former leader has in the current political landscape. To understand this clearly, we are going to analyses the political history of Latin America and establishing how it shaped the current politics. One crucial thing that Latin Americans considered awesome moment is the liberation movements. People in the country had gone through suffering and tragedy’s perpetuated by the kind of leadership that was in place in their error. The issue of inequality impeded several people from changing the world around them, although they had the capacity.
The political situation in Latin America could not remain the same but needed change so that people can live in harmony and liberty. In any country, there those heroes who risk their lives the betterment of others. Those people were present in Latin America, and the efforts they put yielded fruits, and independence was realized. One such person is Simon Bolivar, whose desire and passion were to live in a country that enjoys maximum liberty from any inequalities, dictatorships, and other factors that cause human suffering (O’Leary, 2010). He did all he could to transform the political sphere of the country. Before then, he was worried about how the Spanish colonialists treated the people by imposing racial differences in the country. His capacity as a leader allowed him to lead the revolutionary forces against the Spanish. He indeed achieved his goal because he managed to expel the Spanish forces out of the region.
The evacuation of Spanish from Granada made the region a new republic. Everything needed to be reformed so that the country can start a refresh. The political jurisdiction was in the hands of the people of the country then. Bolivar was in the lead to established the political system had for long envisaged. From the congress he summoned in the city of Angostura, we can get an in-depth of the visions he had. In his speech, Bolivar mentioned that he wanted the installation of a political system that would sustain the new republic (Lynch, 2013). Back then, the issue of the political system was still at its low level. Currently, research several research and discoveries have changed the political landscape. New and procedure have been introduced in the country’s governance system that helps maintain the supremacy of the country. A closer look at the new political systems reveals a perfect resemblance to the vision of Bovar of a system that would ensure the sustainability of the republic.
In history, colonialists perpetuated racial inequality and subjected people to harsh slavery. When they moved how of the territory governed by Bovar, he found an opportunity to establish a political system that closes these unfortunate vices out of the country’s governance. The current political system in Gran Colombia features this vision of Bolivar. Several movements have been formed to lobby for the respect of human rights. The issue of human rights has been global in the global stage, where each country wants humans rights observed. It is even this fact that has led the government to fund researchers to establish ways that human rights can be protected. This means that how the current system handles the issue is dependent on the higher level of knowledge as compared to the past. However, the concept is similar to the vision of Bovar that aims at equality in the country.
At the time of Bolivar, Granada had people from different races, ethnicities, and geographic locations. The situation right now in the world is much more than the case then. People have moved from one country to another for several reasons. Some for jobs some to studies, therefore a country constitutes people of all races and works of life. As such, the system of government such takes into consideration this fact. For the case of Gran Colombia, at its early stage of development after the end of colonization, such a system was required because the population contained a mixture of people already. In his speech at the conference, Bovar mentions that the former leadership degraded the country. He claimed that it perpetuated all forms of ills. Justice was put under stake. His passion as they started a new constitution was to see justice being practiced in the nation. Justice brings liberty, which consequently brings peace and unity. The virtue that could unite the diverse population of Granada then is justice, and therefore the more current different world requires justice to make the population co-exist in unity.
Visions remain imaginary until action is taken to make it a reality. It requires a combination of ideas and efforts to realize the vision. Bolivar had a vision for its country, and he wants to see his country free from internal slaver after the colonialists had left. He set out to an established political system that would help him realize his vision (Bolívar & Mora, 2011). He coined several ideas that would help promote his goals and objectives. He saw the concept of the rule of law potential to achieve unity, peace, and liberty in the country. He mentioned that the rule of law is more powerful than the rule of tyrants. This is because the rule of law is not flexible. Once laws have been established, no one can overturn them no matter how influential he/she is in society.
Role models are essential in our developmental process. They help show the way to the point they are since they have been through the system that we, too, would follow. This applies to the political landscape because there are some of the goals a government requires to achieve, which other countries have made. Consulting those countries will help the government achieve its vision. Bolivar decided to emulate the British parliament to attain the legislative power similar to what Britain had already accomplished. He led the authorities in making laws that would ensure the attainment of this goal.
Heroes deserve rewards that measure up with the level of the efforts that they put in their mission to create a world of difference. The world is where it is now and will continue changing more because of heroes who set out and will set out to eliminate human impediments and vices that considered backwardness in the development process. The likes of Bovar made his country a better place to stay at by leading the revolutionary forces to force the colonial power out of the country (Bolívar & Collier, 2013). With the elimination of the colonial forces, the country was able to remove vices such as racial inequality and slavery, which had impeded human development in the country. His visions and the ideas he coined promoted the realization of such vision through the creation of an incredible political system that is still in force in current Gran Colombia.
