A congenital defect is a condition that is noticed when a child is born, showing errors regardless of its cause. Anna was discovered to have vaginitis, skin rash, and umbilical hernia when she was just a child. Due to these defects, no one wanted to adopt her, and she spent most of her childhood locked up with minimal contact with the outside world.

She was poorly nourished, and therefore her growth was disrupted. She had a severe lack of muscles, abnormal bones, and she could neither see nor hear properly.
