Case 8 Analysis
Case 8 is a case study on the treatment of a university chancellor after refusing to close the school whereas all the others have closed. Winter has very negative effects on the people, and almost all the schools are closed. The chancellor of UIUC does not close the school (Erika, Katie & Jillian, n.d). This brings about a heated debate in twitter concerning the case, and a hashtag is created for the sake of this. The chancellor is bullied online by people that had diverse ways of expressing their disappointment. Jimmy and his friends sit to go through the chats, and he is amazed when he realizes that one of his friends was in the frontline to express her hatred towards the chancellor. She goes ahead to criticize her sex and ethnicity, which is way too much.
In the case study, some of the most evident concepts are racism, sexism, drug abuse and cyberbullying. The chancellor is, first of all, insulted as a result of breaking the people’s expectations. Jimmy claims that the results could be different if the chancellor was of different sex. Others bring in the racism issue with some claiming that the case could be different if it was someone from another race (Erika, Katie & Jillian, n.d). Someone tweeted that women and Asians do not know how to make decisions, and this goes too much into fighting the entire race just because of failed expectations. Jimmy’s friend that is on the frontline complaining spent the entire weekend partying hoping that the classes could be cancelled and this makes her bitter. As a result of the bullying, many other people defend the chancellor and Jimmy is also very open on the fact that the chancellor could have been treated differently if he were from a different Race
Essay 4: Article Analysis
The article I chose to analyze is an article by Courtney Smith-Kimble titled the Realities of Sexual Assault on Campus. The article digs into the facts on the topic and presents them as they are on the ground. It is evident that the cases are real, and they surround every college student. The freshmen are at greater risk of these instances since they have just stepped into the world of freedom. Everyone is introduced to a different world of experiences. It is also clear that they become surrounded by sex predators once they get into the universities. The issue affects both males and females as the research indicated (Courtney, 2020). The article clarifies the facts behind the assaults and gets to explain some of the myths surrounding the entire story and reasons as to why the cases are never reported.
The first reason is gender differences. Males and females take the cases differently. Males are afraid of reporting the cases to the authorities as a result of very many other reasons. The first one is the cultural implications of the entire case. The entire issue is stigmatized, and thus they are afraid that they could be stigmatized more for reporting such. The females, on the other hand, take it personally and fear to report the cases (Courtney, 2020). Last but not least, the cultural implications of the entire case is the fact that men are superior, and very few would believe the fact that they were sexually harassed. All these are as a result of bias in the external world that prevent them from reporting.
