BIOCHEMISTRY Membranes are proof of life in cells. Living organisms are made up of cells ,which are classified into two categories prokaryotes and eukaryotes. Scientists are usually keen on checking chemicals mixtures that signal the presence of life in organisms. For instance, the structure of membranes in living organisms comprises of the following phospholipids, integral proteins, peripheral proteins, carbohydrates and cholesterol. Moreover, phospholipids molecules exist on the membrane bilayers. These include phosphate molecules, head molecules and glycerol and two fatty acids chains. Another facet agrees that the phospholipid molecules are hydrophobic and hydrophilic. They are amphipathic; phospholipids maintains the bond between hydrophilic and water. Secondly, Transmembrane proteins, also known as (TP), are essential proteins that exist in the
