Apartheid & Racism South Africa and the United States are two different nations that are culturally, ethnically, and geographically separated. The U.S is a well-established democracy that has existed for over two hundred years, compared to South Africa’s new democracy. However, the two countries share the same histories and origins. Both of the countries are made up of ethnically and culturally diverse populations, with both of them being founded by colonists who instilled the culture of slavery. In the 20th century, both of these countries discriminated against non-white citizens, largely contributing to apartheid in South Africa, and racism in the U.S. At some point of their histories, the two countries employed legal segregation in their laws.
