Changing behaviors discussion
The general concept that is learned from this video is that consumer behavior depends on external influences. The main influence, in this case, is information. It is noted that some information, positive information, tends to promote a given behavior while negative information tends to discourage certain behavior. However, this does not apply to all aspects in real life especially when it comes to commodities that are linked to addiction. For instance, an example of cigarette smoking indicates that the warnings that are used in the course of advertising such a product give a message that consuming it is harmful to one’s health. Consequently, this does not deter smokers from continuing with their habit.
Conversely, there are three main principles that drive human mind and behavior. One of these principles is expanding a sense of control rather than being controlling. The other principle that is useful in driving the human mind and behavior is giving people a choice. Last but not least, the other notable principle is highlighting how the outcome will get better and not focusing on the negatives.
This video is important in developing our marketing strategy for online gaming product. In this case, we shall provide a disclaimer to the potential subscribers that engaging in gaming for a long time may be harmful to them, as this may lead to addiction. The marketing strategy that will be applicable, in this regard, is social media marketing whereby such information will be captured in advertising the product, though this will not be the main message in marketing communication. The message can be put in writing without emphasizing it in audio.
