Cheryl Grothmann

Hello Cheryl,

I enjoyed reading your post this week. Type 1 diabetes mellitus, more commonly known as type 1 diabetes, is a disease in which the pancreas produces too little insulin to meet the body’s needs. Insulin is a hormone that helps control the level of glucose in the blood. Glucose is the main form of sugar in the body (Otto-Buczkowska & Jainta, 2017). Treating T1D is all about the amount (dose) and timing of insulin, as well as the best way for you to get the right dose of this essential hormone to ensure that the glucose circulating in your blood can be properly absorbed your body.

NovoLog (insulin aspart)is also fast-acting insulin that starts to work about 15 minutes after injection, peaks in about 1 hour, and keeps working for 2 to 4 hours. Insulin is a hormone that works by lowering levels of glucose (sugar) in the blood. NovoLog is used to improve blood sugar control in adults and children with type 1 diabetes (Rosenthal & Burchum, 2018). This medicine is sometimes used together with long-acting or intermediate-acting insulin.

Insulin is the basic treatment in autoimmune diabetes; however, it does not solve all the problems in the control of this type of disease. An important task of this therapy is to protect pancreatic β-cells, slow down autoimmune processes, ensure amylin supply, and regulate the secretion of glucagon (Otto-Buczkowska & Jainta, 2017). The aim of adjuvant therapy is not only to improve glycemic control, but also to protect vascular endothelium, provide nephroprotection, and weight control due to the metabolic syndrome characteristics, frequently observed in these patients.
