Chinese and Indian culture

Some other similarities could be observed between Chinese and Indian culture. Patriarchal society forms the basis of foundation in both the cultures, where men are considered to be the head of the family, and all the other women members are required to abide by their decisions. The decisions taken by the father of the family was considered to be supreme and final in both the Indian as well as Chinese cultures. Another essential cultural root, which has been a standard attribute in both mine and my friend’s culture is our aspirations to grow and develop and visit Western countries. It has been culturally-rooted within us to experience career development by visiting abroad. We might want to learn more about Western culture and adopt some of them within our traditions to become more westernized. Our parents are quite traditional as compared to us, as our generations are rapidly witnessing modernization.

Coming to the area of festivals and music, the traditional ones have been quite different in China and India. The various festivals, which are native to Indian origins, can be holi, dusshera, Diwali, and many others. Holi can be regarded as a festival of color, and all the members of our family love to break taboos and participate in sprinkling water color and powders to one another. Diwali and Dussehra are festivals of light, where burning crackers and worshipping God through pujas can be significant elements. Considering the celebrations of my colleague, they differ significantly from my festivals. The first day of the year in the Lunar calendar is the time of the Chinese festival, which includes garden parties, fireworks, dragon dances, and lion dances. Other activities are conducted on the 5th day of every lunar month, where the dragon boat festival is significant. During this time, my colleague’s family eats Zong Zi, traditional pyramid-shaped rice wrapped in bamboo leaves.

According to Lewis, the behavior of people belonging to different cultures cannot be treated as a haphazard phenomenon. Clear trends, patterns, and sequences are observed between the cultures persisting in different regions. Among all the customs, some could be easily predicted. These include American, European and Asian cultures. The reactions of these people could be justified and easy management. Considering the case of other countries like China and Russia, there has been an emergence of political and economic change, which has contributed to the sudden transformation of the attitudes and beliefs of Chinese and Russian people.

This cultural approach proposed by Lewis is used for the coaching and consultation of different cultures followed all over the globe. The overall aim of such an approach is to be aware of the varied cultures such that it can lead to the ease of interactions with these people. By a study of the cultural roots and the national behavior of the people in the society and the business, the reactions of the people can be judged with a certain degree of accuracy. Another importance of this approach is its coverage and scope as a large number of countries can be its part.
