Classroom management
Abstract
Classroom management is essential for the success of learning in the classroom. There must be rules, procedures, and philosophy that is holistic, and based on Galatians 5:22, 23 for students to have a conducive learning environment to ensure classroom management is effective. Students should learn to appreciate one another and not judging one another based on their diversities. Teachers must uphold integrity, commitment, and professionalism to ensure learners are motivated by following the laid down procedures and rules and appreciating the consequences for correction and not to condemn. Proper communication with the parents and student will promote openness. Also, classroom arrangement and management have been highlighted on how it brings order by enhancing positive engagement between the teacher and students.
Classroom management as a teacher is vital in ensuring teaching runs smoothly no matter the disruptive nature of the students. In my class, I have instituted classroom rules and regulations to manage it effectively to ensure there is peace, harmony, unity, and order. Classroom management has helped me as a teacher to reduce cases of disruption when teaching and ensure students concentrate and remain discipline and participate actively during teaching sessions. If classrooms are well managed, it provides effective curriculum implementation that leads to a positive impact on students to benefit from the learning practices and promote a conducive learning environment. Furthermore, nations succeed with the upcoming generations if education programs are appropriately passed and instilled in students. It can be achieved by ensuring that integrity and proper communication with students in classroom management. Biblical and holistic teaching and learning are vital in classroom management in making sure students know and experience God’s purpose that encourages love, gentleness, and faithfulness during the learning process.
Classroom motto
A classroom motto should spark excitement, inspire, and encourage students to succeed not only in class but outside by ensuring there is a support system that nurtures to be better responsible and productive. Our classroom motto is, “To be successful, hard work and having faith will lead to a better future.” The slogan has encouraged students to remain focused on the goal, both excelling in class and their future endeavors.
Philosophy
A classroom philosophy is a purposeful statement that explains the teaching practices, beliefs, and norms that will foster professionalism, Behavioral change, personal, and holistic growth. The philosophy that has helped me to manage my class effectively and led to success both to me and my students is, “My philosophy in my class is to help students be unique and to grow socially, psychologically, and emotionally. Creating a conducive environment where gentles, temperance, consultation, respect, love, and harmony are encouraged to ensure students unleash their full potential. A secure learning environment where peace and goodness are reflected and students can express themselves by embracing their differences. The teacher will help all students by providing relevant content that activates and engage students during learning to participate freely by cooperating.”
Classroom diversity
In the classroom, there is a diverse group of students. Diversity can bring friction and conflicts if not checked and controlled. In my class, we recognize and appreciate everyone’s diversity and respect everybody’s uniqueness. The differences can arise from religious beliefs, economic status, lifestyle, socio-cultural background, political affiliations, reading levels, and many others. I have ensured that we embrace these diversities positively by learning from one another, which helps students value one another and being tolerant of each other. Recognizing the differences enhances meekness and respect for one another without undermining and judging others based on these differences.
Learning environment
A conducive learning environment is encouraged in a classroom to make students comfortable and avoid inconveniences. The classroom should be clean and orderly with all the required resources. My class has all the learning materials needed making it attractive and friendly to students. An effective teacher has to utilize all available opportunities for student learning to foster an enabling learning atmosphere. I encourage student cooperation, discussion groups, and enhancing a positive classroom culture where everyone is responsible and considerate of others by loving and caring for one another as God wants to be as brothers and sisters.
Room arrangement
Classroom arrangement has been my primary focus as a teacher when beginning a class. A flexible seating arrangement is vital for every student for the teacher to move freely and reach all students without hindrances. A decision needs to be made where to place the teacher’s seat and desk, student’s desk, tables, dustbins, lockers, and any other material in the classroom. An orderly classroom will encourage students to sit anywhere in the room because there will be no blocking one another to view the whiteboard. Furthermore, the teacher can easily see all the students because of the visibility, hence, forestalling any disruptions and discipline issues that may arise due to lack of order.
Student motivation
Motivated students are known to perform well academically and both in interacting with others. I usually encourage my students to be open-minded and set realistic and achievement goals. Having clear and defined objectives helps students to plan themselves by fostering love and respect for one another. To motivate students, allowing students a sense of control and identity is essential in what happens in the classroom. Moreover, making students understand why they are in school will enhance positive engagement between the teacher and students, therefore motivating and inspiring them to give their best. Students can concentrate and be motivated in an open and relaxed class, which is a threat-free learning environment; hence, reducing cases of indiscipline. Providing varied experiences and examples will motivate students because their comprehension varies; therefore, accommodating all slow and fast learners. Encouraging positive competition through discussions and regular assessment encourages students to work hard and help one another to pay attention to what is essential.
Classroom procedures
Classroom procedures guide the way students interact with me as their teacher. An effective classroom should be free of interruptions and confusion for students to utilize all the available opportunities during learning maximally. My class has a proper plan on movement, entering the classroom, and acceptable levels of noise for teachers to teach without interruptions that can delay learning. Being consistent on when class start, end, when to go for a break, and when to discuss in groups will ensure procedures function to bring order; hence, encouraging a sense of expectation and acceptable behaviors.
Classroom rules and consequences
Classroom rules are set to bring order in the classroom. The rules should be in accordance to the bible teachings promoting love, unity, gentleness, and goodness in the classroom by encouraging fairness and acting with professionalism with one another The rules that I have set for my class include reporting time and code of conduct among the students. Also, no student is allowed to destroy or use other colleagues’ items before borrowing, not disturbing others when getting out, and no making unnecessary noise. No use of mobile phones in class and assignments must be handed in at the stipulated time without delay or failing. For the rules set, there are consequences and are not meant to make anyone suffer but for correction purposes.
Record keeping
Recording keeping is vital for learning to be effective. I keep records of the names of the students in class daily and for assignments and assessments that are done. Recording keeping will ensure the progress of the student is monitored for assistance and any other vital information that is required.
Parent communication
Communicating with student’s parents is essential because they should know the progress and well-being of their children in school. Having contacts such as phone numbers and e-mails will ease communication both from parents and me in case there is an issue. Information should be reliable and being faithful to one another by encouraging professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.
