Collaboration and Partnership in Health Care

A partnership is evident when health care professionals assume complementary roles and cooperatively work together and share responsibilities towards a common goal which is problem-solving and decision making for the well-being of the patient

According to research, Interprofessional collaboration in healthcare is dated back in 1972, the Institute of Medicine called for collaborative patient care as a way to better patient outcomes and safety. Since then, the World Health Organization and other global healthcare bodies have stressed the need for interprofessional skills as a way to improve not only the quality of care for individual patients, but also global health populations at large.

The collaborative skills have further seen the introduction, for instance, the care plan. A care plan is a document that identifies nursing orders for a patient and serves as a guide to nursing care. This document portrays a good picture of the importance of collaboration in healthcare

Care plans provide information for individual care of the patient. A care plan consists each patient’s unique list of diagnoses and should be organized by the individual’s specific needs thus enabling proper planning for the client It also ensures continuity of care. It is a means of communicating and organizing the actions for several persons. As the treatment is administered, the updated plan is passed on to the nursing staff at shift change and during the clients’ care.

Care plans help teach documentation. The care plan dictates which observations to make, what nursing actions to take and what instructions to pass to the client or family members. This ensures everyone is flowing in line with the positive care of the patient.

It ensures the client receives care from the exact care giver they require. There may be aspects of the clients care that need to be delegated to team members with certain skills and specializations.

The care plan saves both the patient and the hospital financially. The records are used by insurance companies to know how they will assist financially in relation to the hospital care given to the client. If nursing care is not documented in the care plan, there is no tangible proof the care was given.

Research on theoretical and empirical knowledge (Influenza Virus).

The influenza virus, commonly known as the flu virus causes the flu. The flu is a prevalent disease in society, and people are so used to it that they do not take it that seriously, but the truth is that this disease kills. When this disease infects someone with a weak immune system, then that person is in a severe problem that may even lead to death. According to research, it is seen that the virus is indeed fatal to these people, and they need preventive measures, but some of these measures can also be harmful and create a dilemma for health workers. For example, they are giving influenza vaccine shots to these kinds of people.  Take the elderly for instance, their immune systems are weakened, and an infection from the flu might kill them but administering the vaccine shot to them might also be fatal due to the fact that they will think they are immune and not take any other preventive measures and expose themselves to the virus and get infected.

Research has also shown that the elderly that are more affected are the ones that are poor and fend for themselves rather than the ones who are wealthy and well-fed and have people to take care of them. This is because the poor have a high risk of being exposed to the elements that transmit the virus. For nursing to be better and the knowledge of nursing to be passed along we need to do a lot of research in the topic of nursing itself, as in what did nurses do before when they encountered a certain disease, what worked? What did not and what had promise? By doing this the nurses will be able to gather knowledge and become better and they will also be able to help others in the future to cone on how to deal with different types of situations.

                                        Leadership Interview

Most people in the world are the ones in the working class, and most can be found in organizations. Here people interact often and at risk of getting infected by a disease. Take, for example, the current crisis in the world, the coronavirus, it is very infectious, and people have to take preventive measures. The general public might not be aware of all forms of transmissions and so to keep viruses from spreading, the people with the know-how have to create awareness and make people learn. One way of informing the public is by use of interviews, and the nurses need to take up roles in organizations such as those of teaching others.

There are many forms of leadership, and a nurse should use the best one in this situation, which is democratic leadership, where everyone can actively participate. By doing this, everyone will feel good, and they will learn. Here the nurse can be asked things concerning the topic that has been chosen, say, heart-related diseases, and the people will be given information that will help them. Most importantly is that when at work a nurse needs to be a leader and show that they are capable of handling difficult situations and making hard decisions. Just as the interview showed us that even as a nurse you need to show managerial skills so that you can maintain your staff and do a good job. At times you need to be soft, at times you need to be hard but you need to maintain professionalism at all times.

P.T.S.D.

Sometimes patients that come in the hospital are hard to communicate to, and such patients are the ones with special conditions such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and posttraumatic stress disorder. Such patients need to be communicated to in a certain way that is not precisely normal as you would for healthy patients. A nurse should be one who can deal with all kinds of patients, the ones that cannot hear should be written to, or use of sign language should be used.

Patients with P.T.S.D. are very fragile and can be spooked very quickly due to the things that they have experienced in their lives, and most of them are usually soldiers. Treating such a patient is suitable for a nurse because it helps the nurse improve their communication skills by knowing what to say and what to avoid. First off, the nurse needs to develop or set a relaxed environment with the patient so as the nurse can know a lot about the patient and make the treatment effective.

Statistics show that the number of people with this condition is many, and the amount will be even more significant as the move on. The statistics show that 50% of outpatients will have P.T.S.D., 10% of women will have P.T.S.D., and 8% of Americans will have P.T.S.D. at any given time. Patients with PTSD have many symptoms and cannot be discussed as of now but the most important thing is treating them and ensuring that they are helped. We need to consider their situation and understand them in order to know how to help them. And by helping then tap in that event that brings them Pain is one way of helping this people. If they need to write something let them do it. If they need to say something let them say it.

Ways of knowing.

Aesthetical

According to Carper aesthetics is an art of nursing focusing on direct feeling of experience. It is the understanding of knowledge and experience that can change our thoughts of how nurses view their patients. Moreover, it involves respecting different opinions the client might have and connecting with them. Aesthetic knowing occurs in enlighten moments as a result of composure of unity, clarity and completeness. It requires the nurse to be actively engaged and interpret a client situation by elucidating the meaning of the process and looking beyond the situation to focus on what might be, so as to act well to what has been envisioned.

Ethical

Ethics is identified by Carper as the moral component of nursing involving an important pattern of knowing. Ethical knowledge is portrayed through codes, standards, ethical theories as well as descriptions of ethical decision making. As empirics, ethical knowledge can be expressed in languages and in a theory. Empirics is assessed on credibility whereas ethics is judged on justness, rightness and responsibleness. For nurses the processes of ethical knowing like advocating for their clients, clarifying the meaning of life and living can change the present values in health care.

Personal knowledge

You know some things since you can see and perceive them yourself. This helps build confidence and self-esteem of the nurses as the ideas they suggest are put into consideration hence they also play an important role in health care.

Empirical

Empirical knowledge purpose was to describe and predict both natural and social phenomena. Knowledge expression of empirics composes facts, descriptions, models and theories explaining and predicting relationships. Knowledge expression is important when the credibility is assessed. In empirics assessment the critical question inquires the knowledge represented and how it is represented. At the assessment of empirics, the credibility is validity of knowledge which must be evident as it was initially predicted to be. The ultimate credibility of each of the knowledge pattern is judged when the pattern is integrated with other ways of knowing and proved as adequate in a caring for patients.

Language/Authority

You know some things because someone who knows the ideas taught you or you read it. A person who had more knowledge passed on the knowledge through language aid.

Emotion/intuition

You know some things because you feel them emotionally. You know that some things are ethically wrong. Some decisions in your life are so complicated you have to depend on your intuition.

Logics/Reason

You know certain things because you can involve logics and reason. For instance, you know that 1 multiplied by 3 is 3 not because someone told you but because you can calculate an answer by applying mathematical. Rationalist take reason and logics importantly, that they say that all sources of our knowledge comes from our ability to use reasoning.

Volunteering

As a nurse, one has to have good qualities to be better than the rest. And people can get conditions like that in the community. By understanding the community you work with, then you can do an excellent job of helping these people. What is the best way of showing the qualities of integrity, spiritual values, and responsibility other than volunteering for work in the community? One can sign up for creating awareness of a particular disease or by doing community work. Creating awareness of diseases such as heart diseases is the right way of informing the people, doing work with no pay, and at the same time helping people is the best way of showing integrity. And during this period, the nurses can also help the sick people by giving them advice on what to do with the current conditions that they are dealing with, and this is functional social responsibility.

For example, when I volunteered to go on a heart disease forum where we were taught a lot of things about heart disease. Forums like this tend to help the community a lot in ways of protecting the and protecting their generations. Some hear diseases are genetic and cannot be avoided but can be maintained and ensured that they do not harm the people having them, such as avoiding stress and always to keep fit and avoid some types of foods. Other ones are self-inflicted through years and years of reckless living and these ones can be avoided and made not to affect the individuals, such as healthy living. The seminar was really helpful and more seminars like that need to be held so as to help individuals in the society. And we as nurses have to participate in such forums and add the little knowledge we have and also learn more on what we do not know.
