Collaboration Scenario
Introduction
Community collaboration is the process of bringing community members, agencies and organizations together in a supportive atmosphere so as to attain a goal that cannot be achieved by a single individual or agency. This implies the use of effective communication skills and techniques for the negotiations and agreements needed to cement the goals and strategies for the collaborative community. This paper will focus on developing a proposal for community collaboration on seeking a grant in setting up Family Literacy Center in my community.
Collaboration Scenario
For the collaborative scenario, I have been named as the executive director in charge of seeking a grant for setting up a Family Literacy Center within my community. Since my community is comprised of people from different cultures, I will need to put a lot of efforts in ensuring that the community members put aside their cultural differences and work towards the common goal of setting up a successful family literacy center. Family literacy center refer to an institution which offers continuum of programs that make the community families more informed about various matters such as literacy skills and health issues. For example, the programs helps parents acquire better parenting and literacy skills as well as offering kids with early childhood education.
From the video script, the collaborative process comprises not only the bringing together the community members but also other stakeholders such as agencies and organization interested in the community project. For our collaborative scenario, all the main organizations and agencies in the community have already voiced their support for the proposed family literacy center. However, the major setback is on the families who seem to lack enthusiasm for the project yet they are the main beneficiaries of the project. From the collaborative article, collaboration is defined as a mutually beneficial relationship involving two or more parties coming together to achieve a goal that they are not likely to achieve singly. Therefore, families being one of the most important parties in this collaborative scenario, their involvement in the program is crucial for its success. Their perspectives and opinions should be considered and included in designing the best programs for the family literacy center. Their input will greatly help in setting up, organizing and implementing the programs to ensure they serve the best interest for the community.
