College Application
I have always held onto the belief that humans have the capability to overcome any adversity. That is because life is always what you make of it. In my case, my desire to join college started from the time I was in kindergarten. I was always the shy kid who feared to talk to other people. Notably, that was because I could not pronounce some words well, and that made me insecure. My quiet nature meant that I did not explore much, and hence that made me lag in my studies. Apart from that, I would see how my mother struggled to raise my older siblings and me, which, to some extent, made me view life as being unfair. In one instance, my mother could not wake up from her bed due to back pains. She had been working so many hours, and it had taken a toll on her. My older siblings had to take care of me and ensure that I attended school since my mother did not condone missing school days. I was touched by my mother’s dedication to ensuring I got an education even at my young age. It was then that is decided to make sure I would pursue my education to the college level and ascertain I was of help to my mother.
Over time, I have not veered off my goals, and hence I have always ensured that my grades are good. Apart from that, I always ascertain that my life is guided by having a lot of self-discipline. That is because being discipline infuses rationality in the manner that a person makes life choices. It helps a person to forego decisions that bring short term pleasure for those that will help a person achieve long term success. I am often teased that being so disciplined makes me uptight and hence not enjoy my freedom. Even so, I argue that a disciplined person is the one who is genuinely free since he or she does not have to bend to short-lived desires and pleasure. As well, in my case, the problems that I experienced in my childhood makes the stakes for success very high that being disciplined becomes my second nature. Besides that, I have always felt the pressure to make a difference not only in my family but also in other struggling households. I can only achieve that by getting a college degree and looking into how I can use my education to create change in the world.
Buddha, in the first noble truth, otherwise referred to as dukkha, taught us that “life is suffering.” That can loosely be translated to mean life will sometime be challenging. Therefore, success will not just be given to a person; it will have to be earned. In earning that success, a person will be able to achieve happiness. In my case, I am always inspired by dukkha, and it drives me to work hard, given that it will lead to higher levels of success. Thus, I believe by getting a chance to join college, I will embrace dukkha and therefore work hard to achieve higher levels of success. In addition to the above, getting a college education will play a huge part in the process of helping my childhood dream of effecting change both in my family and the community at large. As well, if I join college, it will be a type of reward for all the hard work that I put in my education since kindergarten. In other words, it will be a source of motivation since it indicates that all the efforts I have put in my educational process have been finally recognized.
