come up with a criminal justice fighting strategy
I want to come up with a criminal justice fighting strategy that is based upon the strain theory. Agnew et al. (2002) argue that the strain theory holds that most people possess similar aspirations to lead better lives. The problem is that these individuals have different abilities as well as opportunities and when they fail to achieve their desires and expectations through approved ways such as working hard, they opt to engage in crime to realize success (Siegel, 2006). According to the theory explanation, I suggest a justice fighting strategy which I call 8-Household Policy. This Policy will demand each household to keep track of the whereabouts in terms of income sources or jobs and origin of 8 houses in their neighbourhood. This Policy aims to empower citizens to report any person with questionable income source since some people may engage in crime such as conning and burglary to satisfy their personal or family needs and aspirations. With my 8-Household Policy, such individuals can easily be identified and reported to the appropriate security officers for further investigation.
The 8-Household Policy will assist in reducing or eliminating crime in society by using citizens as each other’s watchdogs. As a result, the responsibilities of police officers are reduced, and they are given sufficient time to cater to serious and pressing matters. Again, the 8-Household Policy will help the members of the society interact and know each other better and hence providing an opportunity to build themselves through proposal and idea generation as well as engaging in commercial projects. While this Policy presents various benefits, it stands a high chance of violating the society members’ right to privacy since people have to keep sticking their noses in their neighbours’ affairs.
This Policy’s implementation plan depends highly on the government, which is supposed to talk to their security agencies to sensitize the public on how the Policy works and its various benefits. The implementation process may require engaging local partners who are well known to the society to help in the sensitization process. Upon completion of the sensitization process, the 8-Household Policy will be implemented and evaluated continuously to determine its effectiveness as well as flaws. The presence of any imperfections will be addressed with immediate effect.
