Communication and Economics Influence on Healthcare in Sentinel City

Introduction

The sentinel city community has more than six hundred and six thousand residents (American Sentinel University, 2019). Health issues are a challenge in the community. Information from the Sentinel city school district indicates that there are awareness programs to educate the community on issues regarding substance abuse, STDs, Mental health, and other social challenges. The following article will evaluate various communication and economic subsystems within Sentinel city that may influence the community’s health status.

Communication Subsystems

Observations

The use of billboards for advertising is very common in the city. Billboards are evident in the four parts of the city. The most common use of billboards in the city is for business advertising. However, there is also the use of informative billboards to educate the public. One such example is the billboard at the ABC care center that warns the public against texting while driving. Additionally, there are several community bulletin boards in the community. One example is the notice board located at the junction between Stephens Street and Elm Street. There is also a community bulletin board at Louche road, which informs the community about a planned redevelopment housing project. Finally, there is little evidence in the community to suggest that there are predominant party affiliations. However, there is a citizens’ demonstration taking place at the City Hall, which suggests that residents in the community are politically active.

There are three types of formal forms of communication in Sentinel City. These formal communication channels dispense official information to the public (Garvey, 2019). The three forms are Billboards, bulletin boards, and Mass media communication. Mass media communication channels include Radio Buzz FM and WSEN News4U television channel. There are also informal communication channels. One example is the use of social media, such as the use of twitter to report about an ongoing hostage situation at the ABC care center.

There is evidence of graffiti marked walls at Casper Park District, which suggests the presence of gang-related activity in the community. The community also has evidence of prisoners and street teenagers, such as Fabio Kamaka and Gary Johnson. Also, the community has a television channel called WSEN News4U. There is also a radio channel at the city called Radio Buzz 96.5 Fm.

The Most Effective Mass Communication for Educating the Public on E. Coli Prevention

In my opinion, billboards are the most effective means of educating the public on E. Coli Prevention. E. Coli is a hygiene-related infection that often spreads through drinking or eating contaminated meals (Brazier & Falck, 2017). Billboards are present in all the streets of the city and are accessible to vulnerable groups, such as homeless men. Also, there is evidence of informative education of the public using billboards.

Economic Subsystems

Observations

The two most common occupational groups in the community are police officers and nursing practitioners. There is also evidence of military officers in the community. Rodney Cooper, Fabio Kamaka, and Dwayne Thomas all have a history working for military departments. Additionally, several individuals in the community work in the nursing department, such as Jenifer Graham and the Director of Health.

The community seems to have a high level of unemployment. Dwayne Thomas, who was in the army, is a homeless man. Kamaka is a prisoner despite having a career history in the navy. Also, protestors at the City Hall are demonstrating against hiked taxes, which suggests that the community has economic challenges. However, people in the community work within the community. Cooper is a resident and police officer in the community. Also, Graham is a nurse at the community clinic.

How Economics Can Influence Health

The lack of employment has caused some of the residents of Sentinel city to indulge in unhealthy activities. One example is Dwayne Thomas. He is a former military officer who has no job. He sleeps in an abandoned building with several other men. Also, he depends on the Soup kitchen for meals. He explains that he hardly gets enough to eat, but would rather steal to feed his dog. The lack of employment has focused Thomas to live in unhealthy conditions. These conditions make it challenging for persons like Thomas to access healthcare.

Community Nurse Application to Levels of Prevention

In the case of Dwayne Thomas, the points of health risk for contracting E. Coli is the Soup Kitchen. As a primary prevention measure, the community nurse can sensitize the cooks of the soup to observe high hygiene. As a secondary prevention measure, the nurse can set up a testing facility near the soup kitchen to test and offer medical care to all E. Coli patients. Finally, as a tertiary prevention measure, the nurse should offer education to this vulnerable homeless group on the causes and prevention measures of the infection.

Conclusion

There are numerous healthcare challenges in the Sentinel City community. However, the community’s economy seems to be underperforming. There are groups of unemployed people in the community. Lack of employment is a barrier for these people from accessing better living conditions and healthcare. However, these groups are more vulnerable to preventable health issues, such as E. Coli. Therefore, healthcare professionals in the community should use the various communication channels to educate the public on preventing these hygiene-related infections.
