Communication and identity
Communication can help build identity by enhancing a cognitive, social learning process, which includes mimicking behaviors, emotions, and attitudes from other people around us. We are equipped with the genetic identity that we inherit from our ancestors. However, these traits may never present themselves in us until such a time that we decide to practice them as parts of our lives. We tend to identify with those traits that we feel can make us comfortable and stronger while at the same time removing those we think are unnecessary, hence deleting them from existence.
Communication provides a means of interaction with the environment; hence enabling us to identify our personality traits. It helps us identify what exists in our immediate surrounding such as friends, parents, animals, and natures, hence helping us relate with these items as well as develop our traits from our interaction with these items. Therefore without communication, there will be no such interaction, and hence we will not be able to maintain our cultural identity. It also means without communication, and we are not able to build our personality or unless it has been imposed on us.
Conclusion
Communication is essential in many aspects of our life. Everything that happens around us such as business, politics, environmental talks, and culture has the communication aspect of it. Communication also helps people identify their roots and origin. By helping us interact with the environment, communication also helps us create our personalities.
