Compare and Contrast Essay
In this essay, you will be comparing and contrasting two different careers or specialties. The careers/specialties can be vastly different (for example, welding and elementary education) or similar (for instance, two different types of nursing positions). Regardless, you should consider “subtle differences” and “unexpected similarities” between the two careers or specialties If you choose vastly different types of positions, your essay should highlight the comparisons (similarities), whereas if you select very similar jobs, your essay should emphasize the contrasts (differences). The thesis should explain the two topics that you are comparing and contrasting and state your claim about the relationship between them. For instance, you might explain which career seems more preferable or appealing to you after completing the assignment. Your audience for this essay is anyone who is also interested in the two careers or specialties you discuss. There are two primary ways to organize compare and contrast essays: By subject, discussing one topic then the other By individual points, discussing each subject in relation to each point In order to support your comparisons and contrasts with specific and credible details, you will research and incorporate at least four credible sources into your essay. This could include interviews with individuals in each field, articles discussing careers in relevant magazines, or statistical information about salary and worker satisfaction from credible websites. All language and all ideas from an outside source MUST be cited properly to maintain academic integrity.
