Introduction

Art is an essential element in every building. Artwork can be able to distinguish and bring the essence of sophistication in a building.  Art is considered a means of expression of faith and dedication. Religious faith can be attributed to being the reason for some of the most inspiring and astonishing mechanisms of art.  Some of the paintings include sculpture, painting iconography, among others.   A portrait can be described as a painting, photograph, and also a sculpture representation of a person.

The architecture of cathedrals, basilicas among other churches are characterized by buildings large and they mostly follow one several branching traditional forms and also style. This type of architecture is a resultant from early Christian customs, which were reputable in the Constantinian period.  Some of the earliest large churches are said to date from late antiquity.

The basilica of Santa Pudenzia is a 4th-century church that is located in Rome. The church was dedicated to Saint praxedia and the daughter of saint pudens. The church is now considered among the first and oldest places of worship in Rome.  The church was build over 2-en centaury house, possibly during the pontificate of Pius 1in 140-15 AD.  During the preach of Pope Sirius, it was transformed into a three-naved church. The culmination of entry and also the focal point of the styling and design was the apse.  This would serve as places where the priest would proclaim the word and offering sacraments (Schlatter, 1995).

The church is an overall rectangular basilica plan, and it composes of a central nave with seven bays with lower structural side aisles. The dominant nave is seen to be under a pitched and tiled floor.  The ceiling is octagonal, with a pitched and tiled roof of almost eight sectors which is above a protrusive distillate cornice.  The building is known for most of its art such as the painting of Angels and saints before the savior.  This art was done by a painter Pomarancio.  The mosaics in the apse are considered to be among the Roman architecture. They date way back as fro 4th century. Some of the collections are remarkable for their iconography.  For Example, Christ is represented in for a human figure rather than a symbol of a good shepherd or lamb. Christ sits on a ornament covered throne, wearing a golden Robe, which represents authority over his children and church. He has his right hand stretched sitting among his apostles, two of which were removed during restoration  (Schlatter, 1995).

On the left side of the peter chapel, it contains a part of the table that was used to be saint peter to hold a celebration of Eucharist while the rest of the table is embedded in the papal art of st. John Lateran.  Another technique at the altar which is a sculpture depicting Christ delivering the keys to heaven to st Peter. Sculptor Giacomo Della Porta did this art.  In the chapel their also two bronze slab in the wall with writing explaining that here st Peter was given bread and wine for the first time in roe as a blessing of the Eucharist. Finally, a statue of St.Prudenziana in a position by Claude Adam. The architecture of the place included symmetry, hierarchy, and anterior depiction of the figures.  Behind the character of Christ, there appears an expanded city. On the center of it resembled a hill that was overcome by a jewel- coated cross. This symbolizes the city of Jerusalem and Golgotha as the hill. The mosaic theme of both churches was aimed to give believers a sense of order and harmony.

Parish church of Santa Maria  Assumpta De Bonavista is a contemporary church inaugurated in 2016. Daniel Gimeno and Miguel Guitart designed the church. It is made of monuments and art from different painters. The church portrays a sense of transcendence through its universal values.  The church was created in 2017. the church is made of concrete and a single nave with side lighting provided by the sky.  The Parish also includes rooms for classes, offices, and a residence to the fathers (Shearman, 1961)

The interior of Parish is formed by a single nave, and it is also lit with two longitudinal skylights. The Parish contains some sculptures which were done by brothers Jorge and Jose Angel. One of the paintings is the Stations of the Cross and art by Jaume Queralt.  The occupied building consists of a rectangular structure lined with sheets going vertical. The statue of Mary carrying a baby Is one of the art that is found at the entrance of the door to the Parish. Another image that is mounted at the front is the Christ in a human body being crucified and a crown of on his head. Blood is seen twinkling down from his ribs where we were pierced. These legs are crossed and nailed pierced between them.

In both church, Jesus I placed at the center of his disciples and teaching them. This art found in both the ancient and contemporary times aims to bring about harmony between members of the congregation.  It is common that in both churches, the art of Jesus, disciples, the saints are mounted on the wall to show believers that he too was on the earth, and he was able to conquer the world.  Both spread the same message of hope to believers and also welcome the none believers to come and assemble and worship God.

The meaning and purpose of both churches have not changed regardless of the years they were created. They serve the same purpose and preach the same bible to the congregation. Some of the messages may have changed as the contemporary church mostly focuses on the message of hope and deliverance. This is because we are standing at a difficult time when calamities and disasters are hitting us from every corner. Hence many people seek to find closure in the house of God.

In conclusion, art plays a crucial role in building at it brings in an element of sophistication, and it distinguishes one building from another. Art has evolved from many years to now, and it’s clear how. No matter the structural difference, these two buildings or churches have been crucial in uplifting the faith of different people and bring home the message of peace. No matter the fundamental difference, it is clear, both churches acknowledge that Christ is the head and the teacher, and all must follow him.
