Annotated Bibliography : Composing an annotated bibliography is great preparation writing your forums on the Issues presented. In doing the bibliography you will: Find out what has already been said about your topic, which will help you decide what argument you want to make about it. Identify the most reliable and useful sources to help you make that argument. Summarize, evaluate, and reflect on these sources, which will help assure that you understand them thoroughly and can use them effectively. Demonstrate to your instructor that you understand the research process. Annotation Requirements Write two (2) entries for each Issue covered, a total of 24 pages (one entry per page, two references will be evaluated for each issue (12 issues total), this is the entry) will be turned in, (the issue topics are from each of the discussion boards, I suggest you use references you provided for these issues discussions) no longer than 1 page single-spaced, that contains the following information (#1 to 8 below for what to include in the write up for each entry): 1. Search strategy State how you found the source. Include your search terms and the database, book catalog, or search engine you used. 2. Citation in proper MLA format Use the “Cite” or “Cite This” feature found in databases and book catalogs to copy and paste MLA citations. Be sure to always proofread them. Web sites don’t always have a “Cite” feature, so for these or other sources without a “Cite” feature, be sure to follow the citation guidelines included in the e-handbook or your library class page. Althernatively you can use http://www.citationmachine.net/ to format your references. 3. Annotation that includes answers to all of the following questions. The entire annotation must be written in your own words. It may not be copied from the abstract or any other desсrіption, and it may not include direct quotations from the publication itself. 4. Summary & Purpose: What are the main ideas of the source? Is the main purpose of the source to contribute new knowledge about the topic or to try to persuade an audience to believe or to do something about the topic? 5. Methods Used to Collect Data & Reliability of Data: Is it clear from the source what methods were used to gather the evidence used in the source? Does the source convince you that its evidence is reliable? Why or why not? 6. Usefulness & Relevancy: Why is this source helpful to your research? How will you use it in your paper? Are there any limitations to its usefulness for your paper? Can you overcome these limitations? How? 7. Authority: Is the source written by someone who has the expertise to write on the topic? List the credentials of the author(s). 8. Currency: Is the source up-to-date for your topic? No BLOCK quoting. See Grading Rubric folder for guidance on grading.
