Concept Theory and the Media
Description of the incidence
The New York Times reported the murder of the unconscious George Floyd after reportedly buying cigarettes on a $20 bill counterfeit. In this case, the victim lost his job at the restaurant as a result of the lockdown rules. The post-mortem reports show that death resulted from homicide, which reduced blood flow to the heart (Hao, 2020). The killing of the African-American victim relies much on the poor management of top authorities in this era of the coronavirus. The police administration failed to educate the police on how to handle people in these hard times (Yin & Zeng, 2020). Asphyxia incident on George Floyd accelerates the underlying medical condition on the patient that resulted in the death. The shopkeeper made 911 calls to the police who arrived in seventeen minutes and committed the homicide in eight minutes. Generally, the victim died as a result of the murder by the police.
Reports for the homicide evident on George Floyd signify that the seventeen minutes from the police station to the scene was planned. The concept theory explains that job loss as a result of Covid-19 has a significant contribution to George Floyd’s buying cigarettes on counterfeit (Ling & Ho, 2020). Financial constraints evident on the victim after losing a job as a security officer in the hospitality industry trigger the misbehavior. The victim’s family reported that Mr. George Floyd had an underlying medical condition, therefore, pressing him on the neck reduced oxygen supply to all parts of the body (Mitnik, Freilich & Chermak, 2020). Lack of effective leadership on the police is evident in the poor handling of Mr. Floyd. The police officer, Derek Chauvin, has been charged with third-degree murder and the firing of the other three police officers. In response to the crime, President Donald Trump has vowed to use the military in displacing the demonstrating Americans. The use of the army by the president is likely o increase the spread of the coronavirus through the random movement of people in the streets.
Explanation of the incidence by concept theory
Concept theory explains the organization of human behavior and performance. It is essential in helping us to make predictions in the future based on the flow of events. Effective leadership is crucial in managing the realization of concept theory (Yin & Zeng, 2020). The coronavirus management relies on the government’s ability to mobilize media houses to pass relevant and vital information to the public. Lack of effective leadership in America is the primary cause of murder and accelerating the spread of coronavirus. The police officers display a lack of effective crime management in times of crisis.
Concept theory predicts the financial problems on the 46-year old hotel watchman as the main drive to $20 counterfeit. The addictive nature of cigarettes could not allow the victim to avoid smoking regardless of the financial challenges. After losing a job at the hotel, Mr. Floyd was under stress about raising the basic needs and effectively feeding his family. The availability of anxiety accompanied by the prevailing medical conditions quickly resulted in Asphyxia. The effective management of President Trump’s administration has a primary task of reducing the spread of coronavirus on demonstrating Americans (Naviaux, Janne, & Gourdin, 2020). Therefore, the use of the military in spreading the people expressing will be useful; however, not an ideal solution to the murder. Concept theory justifies the decision by the president in using armed forces to facilitate the one-meter social distance among the people.
