Dear Senator Eckhardt:

I Am a resident from Dallas and am concerned about what my state government is doing to stop the coronavirus spread and flatten it.

Since the first case was confirmed in Texas, the government has not implemented strict measures to fight it. For instance, there is no statewide shutdown despite the high number of deaths recorded daily.  People still loom all over the cities, which puts them at a high risk of contracting the virus.

In states like Hawaii, where they have managed to flatten the curve, the spring break for public schools was extended to give the school administrations ample time to evaluate recommendations for reducing the virus’s spread. That is different from our schools here in Dallas, where city counties have the discretion to respond to the virus; however, they see fit. Only half of the schools in Texas told their students to stay at home after the spring break. I would recommend the closure of schools that have not implemented measures to stop the virus’s spread.

Many states have been reporting daily cases in their counties. Still, the Texas Health & Human Services Commission had not reported cases in detail until recently when the first COVID 19 was released. For months, they insisted that the patient’s information was private, and it was wrong to expose it to the public. When the information was released, it showed that the number of infections in Texas nursing homes has exploded. This puts Texans at risk as they might have interacted with infected people unknowingly. It would be necessary for your government to give details of the confirmed cases to avoid further infections.

It is the government’s responsibility to make sure its citizen is safe. Therefore, I would request you to continue educating people on the need to maintain social distance when they are in public and putting on their face masks to avoid contracting this deadly virus. Social gatherings of more than ten people should be banned for some time until we can flatten the curve. I would urge you to subsidize the cost of sanitizers and face masks to make them affordable to all the citizens so that everyone can take care of themselves from the corona virus. It is also essential to continue imposing a 14-day quarantine on people traveling into our state to minimize infections from those people. Thank you for the measures you have taken so far, but I urge you to consider the above measures.

Thank you,

Students name.
