Crane Accident
One of the recent crane accident was occurred in Dallas back in June 2019 at around 9.00 pm. According to the CNN reporter, it was triggered by adverse weather conditions. Three hours before the accident occurred, the weather service announced that Dallas was going to experience a thunderstorm, and the people in that region should be well prepared. Later, there was a strong wind that blew the crane backward. It collapsed with a greater force and crushed one of the apartments, several people were killed, others were injured, and properties were destroyed. The crane belonged to Bigge Crane and Rigging company, which said that it was looking for the answers to know why the wind moved the crane.
When looking at this case, the OSHA construction standards were violated, and that is why the accident occurred. One of the OSHA regulations that was violated went into effect in April last year. This regulation stated that accidents should be minimized by strengthening crane operators training and knowledge. When looking at this accident, it is evident that the crane operator was not knowledgeable about the weather patterns, and that is why he/she did not take any precautions. All the operators should receive training from time to time so that they can be up to date with the new regulations being introduced. Technology is bringing changes, which implies that there are new cranes that are being designed. It is only through training that the operators can be educated on how to operate these cranes to avoid more accidents.
