Criminal Justice: Discussion Response

Case 1

Herman Goldstein was highly instrumental in the deployment of the United States police strategy policies as he developed problem-oriented policing, an idea for the police to address a specific problem and develop specific solutions to each problem rather than thinking in broad concepts such as crime and disorder altogether. Further, during the interview, Goldstein argues that there is a dramatic difference between problem-oriented policing and traditional policing, which hold immense untapped benefits both to the general public and to the police service (Walker, 2005). He, however, notes that the implementation of the process has been slow in police departments.

Case 2

Besides Hernan Goldstein’s high contribution to the United States policing strategies such as the introduction of problem-oriented policing and extensive researches to enrich service delivery by the police, during the interview, he is full of optimism and hopes the strategy will work efficiently. Moreover, he has uncovered routinized and informal policing in his American Bar Foundation research work, which posits that finding out a solution for the problems happening in the streets is more important than doing surveys or studying policies of police organizations (Walker, 2005).

Case 3

Although Hernan Goldstein’s contribution is mainly scored within the United States boundaries, its research work also attributes beyond the United States with countries in Europe such as the United Kingdom adjusting their ways of policing, such as policies, training, and procedures to his recommendations. However, Goldstein sees the United Kingdom’s implementation of problem-oriented policing as surprising since, according to him, it was not an international phenomenon even though the implementation process in the United States was slow (Walker, 2005).
