There are various lessons learned from the cultural competency in nursing. Cultural competence is the reason that nursing is committed to promoting patient-centered care and mitigating disparities in health care systems. Cultural competency is widely recognized as a significant factor in the health industry that is influenced by psychological and cultural factors that include beliefs, values, language, and religion. Therefore, nurses are supposed to learn, understand, and come up with cultural skills for them to be able to deliver patient-centered care adequately. Nevertheless, getting cultural competency, it’s not a walk in the park because nurses have different psychological and cultural diversity, thus broadening the concept of understanding the culture of specific places. Therefore, it will take a longer duration for the nursing industry to achieve optimal cultural competence. It is essential to learn all the processes of cultural competency and describe how its principles can be applied in the provision of nursing health promotion services.
Principle of Cultural Competency
The principal of cultural competency includes valuing diversity, learning and understanding cultural knowledge, adapting to cultural setups, and self-evaluation of cultural competency. The principles apply to nurse health promotion services through improving nursing knowledge and enhancing their skills through cultural beliefs and attitudes. The nursing knowledge acquired equips the practitioners with the right attitude in serving their clients. The experience enables nurses to work in different communities that have different cultural beliefs.
Application of the principle of cultural competency
There are various ways in which cultural competency can be used in improving nursing services. Indeed, cultural competency is essential in helping nurses get the required knowledge and skills to handle different cultures and their underlying biases. Therefore, the principal is crucial in promoting the self-evaluation of nurses for them to deliver and biased care and improve health practice.
