CULTURE OF MCC STUDENTS
Lack of resources
MCC has been hit by the continued lack of various resources for students over the past years. The school lacks enough full time physical education teachers, librarians, and art and music trainers. MCC also lacks enough learning materials like textbooks for each student and other digital learning aids. Special education teachers and assistants are few while the caseloads continue to escalate. The school also lacks social emotional support for the students and there are no administrators to approve necessary evaluations and materials. There also lacks enough athletic equipment and trainers to help students in extra-curriculum activities. Lack of such vital resources makes the school environment unfriendly for students and arouses anxiety and stress in students.
Why is lack of resources an issue?
The lack of vital resources in MCC is a serious issue affecting both students and teachers. The teachers are unable to provide top-notch instructions to students because of lack of enough learning materials and support. There also lacks enough teachers, librarians, and extra-curriculum instructors; therefore, students are not fully equipped with the necessary requirements before sitting for exams. As such, students have hard time preparing for exams and consequently, the chances of failing or getting low grades in the examinations are high. The lack of special education teachers and social emotional support programs increases the stress and anxiety levels in students. Such programs and support is essential for mental health of students and their unavailability has unpleasant effects on the students. Therefore, the lack of resources in MCC is an issue which needs to be addressed.
Most effective research method to explore the issue
The most effective research method to explore the lack of resources in MCC is survey research method. The survey research method involves issues questionnaires or conducting interviews on a large number of respondents. The method is appropriate because it is not expensive and data can be collected from a large number of students easily. Again, the investigator can conduct interviews and administer questionnaires at the convenience of the respondents. Survey research method also ensure anonymity and therefore, respondents can provide accurate information. However, this method is flawed in that distortion, interviewer bias, and volunteer bias can occur.
Lack of resources in MCC according to functionalism and conflict perspective
Functionalism perspective emphasizes on the functions education serves in the society. Education fulfills society needs such as social integration, socialization, social innovation, and social placement (Woods, 2017). Schools teach social norms and values such as respect for authority, competition, patriotism, and social skills; and some of these resources are not available in MCC. According to functionalists, lack of vital resources in MCC can harm the society since the above functions cannot be fulfilled completely. The conflict perspective argues that education can perpetuate social inequality through standardized testing and use of tracking. Schools vary widely in terms of funding, resources, and learning conditions (Woods, 2017). Such disparities and inequality can reinforce the already existing social inequality. MCC lacks some vital resources provided in some schools and therefore, according to the conflict perspective, this can promote social inequality.
