Current Events and American History

The cold war was a time of geopolitical tension between the United States, Soviet Unions, and their respective enemies which happened after the Second World War, lasting from 1947 to 1991. The war was initiated by the struggle to gain global influence by the two superpowers following the victory against Nazi German in 1945. Although the superpowers had undergoing nuclear development strategies that were materializing, the war was conducted indirectly through means that no one would have thought of during those times (Ross, & Jiang, 2020).

The conflict happened through psychological warfare, espionage, propagandas, rivalry in sports events and technology competitions, among others. The first period of cold war started in 1945, immediately after World War II with the United States creating a NATO military alliance in answering the Soviet attack, which influenced other proceedings. The second cold is peeping that might involve the superpowers, including the United States, China and Russia (Ross, & Jiang, 2020).

The Viet Nam war happened as a resistance against America, which is known in Vietnam as Resistance War Against America. The battle commenced on 1 November 1955 and continued until the fall of Saigon on 30 April 1975. This war was fought between South Vietnam against South Vietnam with South Vietnam in support of South Korea, Philippines, Australia, Thailand, United State, among others. In contrast, the latter was supported by China, the Soviet Union, and other communist enemies. The war was instigated by the results from the First Indochina War against the communists (Ross, & Jiang, 2020).

The military organizations that favoured conflict happened with one side bearing an army of the Republic of Vietnam and US armed forces while the opposing party was having the People’s Army of Vietnam and the Viet Cong which acted as a communist guerilla force. Based on the Indochina war, an insurgency against the French rule was created by the leaders of Ho Chi Minh, and when it was getting towards the 1950s, the war merged with the cold war. Later on, the French Garrison surrendered on 7 May 1954, which marked the end of the war through disengagement with the French militias (Ross, & Jiang, 2020).

Martin Luther King was born on 15 January 1929 in Atlanta Georgia, US and died on 4 April, 1968. He was an activist in the Civil Rights Movements and became the most famous and visible spokesperson during his time. He is predominantly known for his movements in advocating for Civil Rights using means that were nonviolence which was inspired by his Christianity foundations, until he was assassinated in 1968. He won the Nobel peace prize in 1964 by conducting his affairs without any form of violence (Wilson, 2018).

Martin has opposition against the Vietnam war. He publicly opposed the war by quoting that the nation should not engage in conflict until radial distribution in economic and political power was achieved. He spoke without fear why US was engaging itself in the war against Vietnam that the US was after establishing colonies, and that was so inhumane, to kill for land. He opposed the war because he thought that the funds would be used by the state to grow its own home rather than aimlessly using money (Wilson, 2018).

The affordable care act is a federal statute in the US pushed forward by the 111th US congress which was later signed into law by the president, Barack Obama on 23 March 2010. The act represents that United States’ health care system that is the most significant and considers expansion of coverage after the Medicare and Medicaid passed in 1965. The bill retained substantial portions of Medicaid and its counterpart with the individual markets becoming overhauled (Block, Cardenas, & Kittleson, 2020).

The act called for essential health benefits without basing demographic status or pre-existing conditions to the citizens. After enactment, the law faced strong political oppositions and numerous legal challenges that made the court consider a ruling where states had free will to either partner or leave the corporation (Block, 2020).

Roe V. Wade was a breath-catching decision by the United State Supreme Court which recalled that pregnant ladies to be allowed a willful abortion with numerous government restriction. A pregnant to have liberty on choosing whether or not to have an abortion, which was decided on 22 January, 1973. The act considered the legalities surrounding abortion, considering religion and moral conducts where the law brought down other regulations regarding abortion in the United State (Linton, 2017).

The decision was initiated by the thoughts of Norman McCorvey who wanted an abortion of her third child during a time when it was illegal to abort a child except in extreme cases of saving the life of a mother. The ruling allowed abortion only during the first trimester and no abortion in the later trimesters. The law passed through a three-judge sitting and later appealed in US court (Linton, 2017).
