dancehall music
The music that I find more appealing is dancehall music. It is a music genre from Jamaican popular music that originated in the late 1970s (Campanella Alonso). I find this kind of music interesting because it is composed at a turbulent pace, a case being jump by RDX or Syvah by Ding Dong. The instrumental in composing music in this genre is appealing to the ears, and since I have a passion for dancing, I use dancehall music to create my choreography. Dancing acts as my part-time job and helps me earn from shows, thus save my parents the stress of providing for most of my needs.
I love dancehall music because the lyrics are usually attention-grabbing and repetitive, making it easier to memorize and sing along as you enjoy listening to it play. A good example is murder she wrote by Chaka Demus. It is a groovy song, and the chorus is easy singing along with has made it popular worldwide, having fifty-three million views on YouTube. Dancehall music attracts entertainers from different countries to share in the Jamaican rich culture. Features from high profile artists are usually a good example of a collaboration between Gyptian and Nicky Minaj, konshens and rick rose, Drake and Popcaan, to mention a few. A producer usually creates a “riddim”, which usually a common instrumental, then several artists can compose music of that same instrumental. Riddims are usually interesting because you get to listen to how several artists can write about different ideas using a common beat, making it competitive and entertaining simultaneously, e.g. V6 riddim that comprises several artists like Popcaan.
Dancehall represents me and the youth by expressing some of the problems we go through in our daily lives. It addresses the problems the youth go through by speaking out for us to the rest of the world, thus why this genre is very popular among the youth. Taking a case of a song titled we a hustle by konshens addresses how the government has neglected the youth and, therefore, most results in crime and substance about because of lack of employment. At the same times in the song, Konshens advises the youth not to sit pretty and wait for the money to come to them but instead, you have to work and use your talent to create employment where there is none. Dancehall also represents us by giving the youth something to vibe to when celebrating, like in a birthday celebration where we want to dance and have fun. An example of this type of music is party shot by Popcaan, which has gained eleven million views on YouTube.
