Declaration of Independence
According to Jefferson, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are the three things that are entitled to everybody. Jefferson believes that these things should not be taken away from any individual because they are essential. He believed that all humans should have rights that cannot be taken away regardless of any circumstance. Some things in life should not be controlled by the government or third party but by individuals personally. However, these rights are not absolute because the government prevents people from enjoying them. This essay will demonstrate why life, liberty and pursuit of happiness are not absolute.
The government takes control of the people. The government of the United States has always denied people their rights because it believes that nothing is 100% guaranteed as long as people live in an ever-changing society. People believe that some things are rights since some are entitled when one is born and should not be taken away for any reason. For instance, life can not be taken but the government has killed many lives through assassination and murder. If the government of people can take away life, then they are punished and this is not the way it should be (Aikman 123).
These rights should be absolutely no matter who the person is. For if someone is black, white, gay, straight, or anything else they all still deserve these basic god-given rights. Equality may not be always recognized but in this sense, it should be. Some may argue that not everyone deserves these rights but in god’s eyes we are all equal. For if these are god-given rights, then everyone should be able to have them. Equality is everything in my eyes and many other people’s as well. If equality is such a big deal to most people, then there should not be an argument on if someone is equal or not. No matter the person or what they have going on they should be able to have those rights, and they shouldn’t have any issues with having them or anyone respecting that you have them.
The three rights are absolute. People are having problems with getting the rights that they deserve. But these rights are not hard to have, for everyone nowadays has them. Everyone is allowed to live and are entitled to their own opinion. We also have the right to do what makes us happy and whatever makes us happy is a good thing. Now that we live in a world where everyone is respected and has these rights we can say more now that these rights are god-given then before. Before now people were treated differently and had different rights based on who they were and where they came from but we no longer live in a world like that. There are various reasons why the United States is considered the land of liberty. Today the government has allowed abortions, LGBT rights, murder etc. These are the main reasons why the three rights have been given to people because they have the free will to do what they want (Aikman 232).
In conclusion, the changing state and statutes in life have interfered with the three rights under every circumstance. People are different for they live in different places with unique ways. Today, the government has had control hence interfering with the rights entitled to the people. Therefore, the three rights are not complete because people are subjected to dictatorship and oppression by either the government or those in power.
