There is no single diagnostic code for diabulimia; hence an individual’s particular diagnosis depends on their dietary patterns. According to the diagnostic manual, diabulimia is an emerging tendency and could thus be coded as bulimia nervosa when a patient practices binge eating and consequently restricts insulin. Also, one can classify the disorder as a purging condition of an individual who has normal eating patterns but still regulates insulin. If a patient severely restricts both insulin and food, then the situation becomes anorexia nervosa.

As such, medics have different programs aimed at helping individuals improve and maintain the proper blood sugar levels to remain healthy.
