Digital asset management
Ever since the invention of the internet, digital media has become an increasingly fundamental part of our everyday interaction. Every day, we interact with photos, video clips, audio files and advertisements. The gradual boom of digital media is driven by a number of innovations such as: video cameras, good network capabilities, affordable storage and high functioning processors (Russel, 2020). The boom of digital media has created a unique challenge for consumers and businesses. Consumers want to effectively locate and categorize digital media files while businesses want to find assets easily and for their products to reach a wide customer base. Digital asset management involves the flexibility, control, and communication of information between customers, organizations and suppliers.
Digital asset management’s fundamental function is to deliver vital content to all the relevant people on their gadgets (Lein, 2020). The information offered is usually in current time with the capability to assess and quantify digital asset activity in an organization and its potential global reach. In digital asset management, the asset that is being managed is usually in digital format and is detailed by metadata in it. The metadata usually contains access rights, asset content and encoding methods.
There are different broad types of digital asset management namely, Brand asset management systems which usually deals with marketing. Production asset management systems that deal with assets develop for digital media consumption e.g. games (Werner, 2020). Library asset management systems deal with the storage of media assets. Finally, there is cloud based digital management systems that deal with the access of assets from devices.
