A patent application is a legal document that is a bit complex prepared only by those trained to prepare such documents. A utility patent is a form of the patent covering a new and useful machine, a product, or a process (MacCord, 2018). A utility patent is also known as patent for the invention. Utility patents are valuable since they give an inventor an exclusive right to utilizing and producing the latest technology. In utility patent, for one to obtain it, the patent holder has to pay and cater to the maintenance fee (Wonmo Ahn, 2015). There are two types of utility patents, namely, provisional and non-provisional applications. The provisional application is cheap compared to the non-provisional application. It takes a short period to be processed and is part of the non-provisional application.
The provisional application is instantly abandoned 12 months after its filing date. A non-provisional application is a form of a patent reviewed by a patent examiner, and it’s issued if all requirements given are met. The non-provisional patent application is what you file to get a utility patent. A specific format is followed in the non-provisional patent application, which has at least one claim. This is not the case with the provisional patent application. A provisional patent application’s primary purpose is to enable a patent applicant to get a filing date and a patent-pending status concerning what the information provided. The provisional patent application offers flexibility to the applicants when disclosing the invention. Since provisional applications are not reviewed by the USPTO (this is a government agency responsible for issuing the patents and examining the patent applications), filing the non-provisional application is compulsory. The earlier you file the non-provisional application, the earlier you get the patent if it’s in line with the requirements. A non-provisional utility patent application includes specifications such as the claims, drawings (if necessary), prescribed filing, examination fees, brief description, and an oath or declaration (MacCord, 2015).
A remotely controllable bulb is an example of a patentable product. Once the bulb meets the issued guidelines, it may help solve human beings’ challenges in their daily lifestyles.

A glass bulb is the outer part of the bulb, which is made of glass. It helps to protect the bulb’s inner interests and hold them together. A glass bulb is transparent, while others may be translucent to allow penetration of the light. It has a vacuum space filled with Neon gas, an inert gas that supports the filament’s burning. The bulb has the filament which glows to produce both heat and light. The filament consists of the tungsten whereby the electric current goes through the filament, leading to the bulb’s glowing. The filament has supporting wires that hold the filament into position while transmitting the electric currents. There are contact wires; this helps connect the photosensors, the CCTV (Closed Circuit Television), and the filament’s dimmers (Han, Wang, Hamel, Zhu & Sun, 2016).
The timer controls the dimmers. The timer works well, whereby in a particular period, they respond by going off. The CCTV cameras enhance security in a room where the bulb is installed. In a remotely controllable bulb, it connects to an external electronic device like a phone. In case the bulb is fitted in a room whereby a particular thing needs attention, it sends signals to that specific device hence making things easier. The bulb has screw threads which enable it to light a room. The cables used in the bulb have aluminum material. Insulation helps to coat the wires to avoid direct contact. The remotely controllable bulb is a novel idea because it can control the amount of heat and light emitted in a room. If it’s for aesthetic purposes, the bulb releases different colors.
A dimmer is an electric device that can switch from one electric current to another. Switching helps release a comfortable glow, save on energy, and extend a particular lamp’s lifespan. A right dimmer is chosen according to the lighting technology used and the transformer used. Remote control is very crucial as it helps in controlling the functioning of the bulb. The remote has buttons that are well labeled to distinguish their functions in operating the bulb. It has positive and negative labeled buttons for both light and heat as well. The negative helps reduce the amount of light or heat, while the positive helps increase the amount of light or heat. The remote has an infrared light, which lights up when the remote starts to operate. The remote uses the bulb through the dimmers, which respond accordingly depending on the remote’s instructions. The remote control is only able to operate a bulb when there is a direct line of sight. Portability of the bulb helps to serve various purposes and made useful in different places.
