Discussion Board Week  3

Gordon Allport was interested in studying in healthy, mature and adult personalities where he made some attributes on his study. The first attribute is an extension of the sense of self, which elaborates that an individual’s maturity ought to focus on more than simple necessities or drive-reduction, and this aids individuals develop vital interests outside themselves and participate truly in offering them directives to their life. Warming relations of self to others emphasize a good connection with the acquaintances, which is essential because they build and share ideas. This makes people earn respect from other individuals through an expression of tolerance.

Self-acceptance helps mature individuals to showcase their emotional poise since they are capable of avoiding overreacting. Realistic perception is also essential since individuals can view things inclusive of people in what they are in the real world. Self-objectification is also necessary because people can look at themselves objectively and laugh at their mistakes and fallings.  The areas that need improvement are on the emphasis of good relationships because it is essential since it brings about good relations and peaceful coexistence in society. Every individual’s focus should be based on the link to other individuals since many people may concentrate on their aspirations (Fajkowska & Kreitler, 2018).

I consider myself a mature and healthy adult following Allport’s definition because I maintain a good focus and pleasing association with other people, many benefits.  I know of other individuals who meet Allport’s definition since they portray a sense of self, which contributes to good relation amongst the people in the society. I do have a unifying philosophy of life because of humour essentiality and the need for maturity as a sense of purpose of life; a sense of purpose can be attributed to the definition of one’s life, which depicts clarity of direction. I agree with Allport regarding the essentials of religion or philosophy of life because there is a need to maintain good maturity and purpose in life. The aspects of trait theory involve the study of human personality based on the pattern of thoughts, emotions and behaviours. Individuals’ actions help one understand other individuals on whom we interact daily to maintain a good relationship with them and minimize the cases that may involve some disagreements (Fancher, 2020).
