E-learning has been a trend in many big organizations
E-learning has been a trend in many big organizations. It has been credited for its ability to save energy, time, and money. Companies that utilize e-earning find it cost-effective as it does not include costs associated with classroom learning such as venues, catering, learning materials, and travel. It improves productivity and performance (Santaniello, 2018). It is also flexible and convenient as employees can undertake online classes merely with the presence of an internet connection and a laptop or a smartphone without regard to where they are. Feedback is given in a timely manner, and management can easily access the information about the progress of the e-learning programs.
A case study on e-learning was conducted on Tech Mahindra Limited, which is a multinational company based in India. The company incorporated e-learning in the development and training of new talents to groom them ready to fill various positions in the company. The company undertakes an online learning program for five months and completing five modules with three weeks for each module. The participants are expected to obtain and retain new knowledge and skills so as to benefit from it. In a class of 167 talents, 75% of them were active in participation weekly. The program provided them with flexibility and hence valued it. The webinar Q&A sessions saw 75% of them attend while most of them being active (Wong & Sixl-Daniell, 2015). In due process, they became self-directed and independent while helping others learn and coming up with new knowledge. Ultimately, the program has been a success in training, communicating, development, and elevation of the value of the employees.
With the advent of social media trends and increased technology use and development, e-learning is a viable option for companies and businesses. It promotes employee development, training, communication, and their value. Therefore, it is beneficial for any company to try to come up with their own e-learning programs and reap its benefits.
