Education is essential

Education is essential for everyone. Over the years, Education in Kenya has been going through a lot of changes. These changes have also been faced with several challenges that make it is functioning ineffective and unreliable. The formation of various commissions and curricula by the government of Kenya and other stakeholders has led to the smooth running of education in the country despite several challenges specific to its weaknesses.

Having the new curriculum under the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development, students joining form one increased. The 100% transmission perpetuated this into form one classes in secondary schools across the nation. This system forces learners to be put in the same condition as those having a higher ability. It favors those with the ability to grasp the concepts being taught while disadvantaging those with less capacity. Those with little power are subjected to the same technical subjects, like chemistry, which is a problem. Learners with less knowledge are best in technical works as compared to exam-oriented learning. They give out their best when in technical fields as their classwork is never appealing, and it’s generally low (Zigler et al. 2017).

Education is referred to as a key to life, or success is a challenge to learners and Kenya s a country. In secondary or high schools, learners are subjected to learning foreign languages, yet even the primary official language is a nightmare. The curriculum stipulates that students should be equipped with at least two languages apart from English and Kiswahili, which is difficult for the learners’ standards. Learning some technical subjects like Physics and Mathematics is also a challenge to mere learners. It is because their ability does not fit the norms laid by these subjects.

The Kenyan government has stipulated ways to ensure that there are criteria used to select the best students to join tertiary institutions like universities and colleges. The cut-off points stated are also a challenge to learners as they find it challenging to get the required attributes (Oburu & Mbagaya, 2019). The Kenyan government tries to adopt a western type of education and impose on learners, making it difficult for them to do their best in the course. Learners are not given what is to their ability; instead, they are presented regarding the curriculum for getting their needs.  Various learners have specific requirements that should be addressed, but the curriculum is general for every learner without considering their needs.

In conclusion, it is now on paper that Education systems in Kenya have faced some challenges. Therefore, the curriculum fails to meet the needs of learners and thus makes it a challenge to the learners.
