Education Report
Educating Americans for the 21st Century report suggests that the education system needs to focus on the subjects that are significant to the contemporary society. According to National Science Board (US) (1983), mathematics, science, and technology are more applicable to modern society, and both the primary and secondary schools curriculum should focus on developing these skills through the adoption of technology. Grades K-12 should adopt contents and processes that ensure all students study mathematics, science, and technology. The report suggests the use of technology as learning too for effective education. The learning and teaching process should adopt the technology.
The 1983 Educational reform reports argue on the benefits and the aim of education to the youths. Education should be available to all people for it to be the best form of education. Education aims to develop individual skills, work skills, and civic skills of the students (Ascher, 1984). All students are supposed to take mathematics, science, social studies, English, and foreign language. The report advocates for high-level mental processes through critical thinking, intellectualizing, and analysis. Technology should be allowed in primary education. The report encourages the effective spending of school hours to bring the best impact. The report advocates for acknowledging the teacher’s activities. The teachers should be recognized through awards and reduced workload.
To implement these reports, the curriculum needs adjustments to include technological studies to the students. The programs taught in the primary and secondary levels will need to improve to make sure there is fair and equal education for all. Teachers need the training to equip them with technological knowledge to teach computer studies. The learning process should align with the needs of society. With emerging technological advances and applications in contemporary society, there is a need to ensure that students have the knowledge to cope with this society. The reports need the collaboration of the schools, teachers, and the students to improve the learning process.
