If there is something that should be taken into consideration is the parenting is the way different parents are able to raise their children into adults who are responsible for taking care of themselves. The behavior of a person largely depends on how the individual was raised. Some of the bad behaviors that are shown by people are associated with parents who raised them. If the parents failed to raise their children properly, then the children are likely to grow into adults with unacceptable behaviors in society. Different societies have different perceptions of what they see as a right see as a wright or wrong thing, and this is solely down to the rules that are set with the society of interest. Therefore, there are some behaviors that one feels are bad but when it comes to the other individual, he or she feels it is ok. Parents who are aware of the norms their society is built on are the ones who should take responsibility in ensuring that the children they raise are bound to the rules of the society so that they may grow into being respected people by all, especially in their workplace and even when they turn into forming their families (Waller and Hyde, 2017). For a child to grow into a more responsible adult, he or she should be trained from childhood to allow the individual to move from one stage to the other in a smooth manner. It is difficult to train a grown-up person as compared to the child to behave the way you want if you were the parent. Parenting is an essential aspect of human life that should start from birth to adulthood. Different parents have different styles on how they want to raise their children, and this can be due to the expectations of the parents they have on their children, the level to which the children are attentive to the rules, and even the way the parents want their children to perform on various duties that are assigned to them (Konopka et al., 2018). The parents’ needs are the ones that have led to the existence of different styles of raising children that have different physiological implications to the child, and the types are attachment parenting, helicopter parenting, permissive parenting, authoritarian parenting, authoritative parenting, and uninvolved parenting.
Firstly, one of the parenting styles that have effects on adolescents is attachment parenting. This is the most important way of raising a child. Here the parent tries and ensures that there is an emotional bond with his or her child. The aim here is to see the child form an emotional bond with the parent, which is achieved by the parent being close to the child. One of the aspects of the parents in this parenting style is that they believe in natural birth. Biologically the born child comprised the genes of both the parents, which means that the parents are connected to the child at birth. The mother in this scenario is the one who is more connected to the child as she is left to undergo labor pains and get the child on her own. The pain that the mother faces makes her so much attached to the child; hence the child forms a strong bond from birth, which is essential in raising the child. When there is a bond between the parent and the child, the child tends to listen to the parent and grows as per the need of her parent. The second aspect of attachment parenting is the sharing of a bed (Ahn and Lee, 2016). Here the child is allowed to sleep with the parents. The method is most associated with African countries and discouraged by the western countries. Although most of the researches that have been done tends to discourage the method, to some extent, it has some of its positives if properly done by the parents who are raising the child. The method developed opportunities for the parent coming close to the child hence forming an emotional bond that is essential in raising the child. The third aspect of attachment parenting is the avoidance of corporal punishment. If there is something that a parent should void in this category is corporal punishment, which in most cases makes the child fear the parent and moves from them. If the child fears the, then there is likely of the child to undergo depression if he or she is being troubled by something. Avoidance of corporal punishment allows the child to be free with the parent, and when faced with challenges, he or she can tell the parent t,o get the assistance that is necessary for dealing with the problem. The final aspect of attachment parenting is homeschooling. This is an alternative way of teaching the child that is done by the parents rather than the compulsory going to public schools. Again this kind of education allows the parent to have more time with the child. During the learning process, the parent who is keen as opposed to teachers in public school is able to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the child and sees the best way the child can be helped. The parents who choose this kind of parenting believe that child grows as a more assured individual, a peaceful human being who is responsible in whatever activities that he or she is involved.
Secondly, helicopter parenting has effects on adolescents and individual behavior. This is a type of parenting where parents are involved in all aspect of the child’s activities which makes them to be over-involved in the children’s affairs. The type of parenting allows parents to monitor every step a child makes from birth to adulthood. The parents in this category keeps on interfering with the children’s activities such when they are playing with other children, when they are in school, and even when they are going to and coming from school. This interference is aimed at ensuring the child is safe, but at the same time, it leads to smothering. The over-involvement of the parent in the children’s activities, if done till the child is in the adolescent stage, then the child’s life may be negatively be affected because the child will be ependent of the parent, which is not good for the ones who are at the stage of an adolescent. The child will become dependent on their parent’s money, time, and advice. The reason as to why this kind of method is not good is that, take, for example the parent dies accidentally, the child will not be able to do things on his or her own since all that the child knows had to come from the parent directly. This scenario will leave the child in a mess whereby the child does not know what to do and this can cause stress and eventually the child may develop bad behaviors as a way of trying to do without the parent. This type of parenting can also compromise teenagers autonomy, personal growth, poor coping skills, stress and anxiety, and it can led to development of narcissism. It is believed that parents who persist in using this kind of method end up losing their child who run away from them because of feeling being humiliated all along as they grow. Psychological, this kind of parenting should be avoided since it affects the psychological development of the child rather than enhancing it.
Thirdly, permissive parenting has got effects on adolescents and individual behavior. This is nontraditional way of raising children whereby parents have no rules that their children should follow and they rather leave the child to grow knowing that there is no set rules that they should follow. This kind of parents are warm and caring to their parents. The love and care that they show sometimes goes to extreme making them more lenient to the children and always s void to discipline the child even if the child does something that is not good as per the society. There is some positives that are involved with this method such as the child is able to develop a sense of belonging that is he or she will be able to make decisions by himself which is a good thing to do especially to the ones that are adolescents. On the other hand the method is discouraged as it has more negative effects on the psychological development of the child. One of the negative effect is lack of self-control for the adolescents (Lo et al., 2020). The adolescents who are bound to no rules lack self-control especially on matters to do with sex. They are the kind of children who are excited at this stage and end up doing things that are unacceptable to children. The second effect is that the adolescent children demonstrate the egocentric tendencies. Because the children grew on their own without specific rules, it is hard to tell something and accept. They always see themselves as doing the right thing and since their parents never tells them, they find it hard to listen to other people’s views. And the final effect under this type of parenting is that, the adolescents find it difficult to develop good peer relationships. Relationships are important when it comes to peers who are adolescents. It is through good relationship, adolescents are able to discuss the issues affecting them and find the possible solutions to their issues. The kind of children raised by this method tend to have troubles with tier piers whereby sometimes they end up fighting their peers which is something that should be avoided when one is in groups that are of benefit.
Furthermore, authoritarian parenting has got effects on the adolescents. This is a type of parenting where the parent is full of discipline to the child and the parent is less warm. Here the parent gives rules that has to be strictly be followed by the child without any compromise. The child is not allow to question the parent whatsoever on any issue rather follow the directives of the parent. This type of parenting has to main effects that are displayed by the adolescents. One of the effects is that the adolescents rebelling their parents and become aggressive. When the parents are dictators, it becomes hard on the children to expresses themselves, which forces them to rebel their parents and if the parents insists on their stand, the children become aggressive and may end up confronting the parent physical which is something that is not acceptable in the society (Cho, Ong, and Cheung, 2020). The other effect is that, this type of parenting makes the adolescents dependent on the parent on the rules and advice throughout their entire life. Physiologically on individual behaviors, this type of parenting led to girls who are dependent on their parents and the boys who are aggressive and motivated. The method is discouraged as the parent becomes authoritarian and fails to listen to the child. Any method of parenting that does not listen to the child who is the center of everything, then the method is not conducive in raising the child.
Moreover, authoritative parenting has effects on the adolescents and individual behavior. This is a type of parenting where parents set rules that should be followed by the children but at the same time they are warm to their child. The parents under this category are firm to their children about the need to follow the set rules but at the same time they are open to discussions that their children’s bring. The children are raised to be independent but the independence should have some limit, and at the same time the parents controls the actions of the child. A good parent has to take care of the child and if that need to happen then the parent need to control the actions of the child by guiding the child on good and bad actions that exists. The parents here use assertive discipline as opposed to restrictive which aims at supporting the child as opposed to punishing the child (Ramsay, 2019). The assertive discipline is the better one when raising the child. It allows the child to digest why the parent is against such behavior and why the parent is against such behavior and why the parent is against such behavior and why the parent is against such behavior and why the parent is against such behavior and why the parent is against such behavior and why the parent is against such behavior and why the parent is against such behavior and why the parent is against such behavior and why the parent is against such behavior and then tries not to repeat the mistake again. The method affects the adolescents and individual behavior, where they become individuals who are able to negotiate and have productive discussions. The individuals also develops socially and become competent and at the same time they become responsible people in the society.
Finally, uninvolved parenting has effects on adolescents and individual behavior. This is a type of parenting where the parents are uninvolved in the child’s life especially in school, the kind of peers the child has, and even the wellbeing of the child. The parents are not warm to their children and they are not even bothered what is going on in their children’s life. The parents neglects the children until the children are able to realize that, the parents only cares about themselves and not them. When the children realize that their parents are not caring they grow into individuals of the same character who only cares about themselves. This kind of behavior is unacceptable since in a society, there should be individuals who care about others for harmony and peace to be within the people.
The reason as to why I choose the topic is that parenting is one of the aspect that is important in the life of a person. A person becomes who he or she is according to the way the person was raised. Although there are many parenting ways that parents can use to raise their, children, the effective style of parenting is the authoritative parenting that has some rules that children should follow, leave room for discussion, and the parents are warm to their children. The individual who are raised using the method have good personality and are able to co-exist in the society.
