Effects of Technology on Education
Digital technology has played a vital role in the advancement in the education sector. Third has impacted not only the students but also tutors and instructors, in which case, they can easily access relevant content to specific subjects. It is important to note that growth in the use of technological tools and internet access by the stakeholders has not only enabled active learning but also improved collaboration of students and their instructors, which has led to enhanced teaching and learning, globalization, and unlimited access to facilities and material.
One of the positive impacts of technology in education is enhanced learning and teaching. In the modern classes, enhanced equipment such as digital cameras, projectors, computers, 3D visualization tools, and mind training software comprise sources of enhanced understanding of concepts for students (Raja & Nagasubramani, 2018). Factually, visual explanation of concepts improves students’ attention in class as it is fun and enjoyable. Additionally, they improve interactivity among students since students are willing to participate more.
The second positive effect of technology in education is globalization. Notably, the internet has enabled virtual meetings of students, in which they interact and exchange ideologies on related subjects. For instance, students from different states may meet through video conferencing without necessarily leaving their physical classes (Raja & Nagasubramani, 2018). Online tutoring has also become a common phenomenon, as students meet online with individual teachers such as foreign language tutors from different countries who have enabled learning of foreign languages virtually. Besides saving time, the program is also cost-effective as one has only to pay for tuition.
The third effect of technological advancement in the education sector is the emergence of online causes with no geographical limitation. Considering the prevalence of institutions offering online degrees, students do not necessarily have to attend physical classes. As such, universities and colleges have been able to cater to not only international students but also those that do not have time to attend the classes due to tight schedules of work. The presence of online courses has, therefore, been accommodative in time management as they can schedule lessons not just at specific times but at personal convenience.
Despite the positivity of technology in education, the fourth effect of education is the deterioration of writing skills. Digitization in education has reduced the ability of pupils to develop their content due to the prevalence usage of online chatting and shortcuts provided on internet platforms (Raja & Nagasubramani, 2018). Additionally, dependence on digital communication has worsened their writing skills since the internet provides spelling checking tools.
Conclusively, technology has positive effects on education, which include enhanced dissemination of knowledge through digital platforms, improved virtual interaction of students, and the emergence of accommodative programs such as online courses. On the other hand, students’ writing skills have been negatively affected. However, the positive effects surpass the negative impacts of digitization in education. Therefore, embracing technology improves productivity through increased access and reduced movement.
