Ego depletion
Kahneman, in his books, elaborates the concept of ego depletion using two different systems (thinking fast as well as slow). He says that system one who is thinking fast is the process of making decisions automatically and its what many individuals use. System 2 (thinking slow) is mainly used in planning processes since one has to way properly on what he or she is pondering on. After explaining, Kahneman describes the concept of ego depletion as a product of exerting too much self-control in one task. If an individual was to use self-control despite one task consciously, they may not be enthusiastic to carry it out in another way since self-control is ringing on their minds (Kahneman, pg. 42). Hence decisions that involves system 2 needs self-control as compared to system 1.
Ego depletion mainly occurs when individuals over use their existing willpower on one issue. In order to restore the depleted ego, one has to at least have a good rest so as to recover the mood as well better the mental performance. Therefore, an instance of ego depletion, is taking quick reaction on an incidence without thinking of the consequences that might follow the reaction.
