Electrical Engineering
Introduction
Engineering is a broad discipline that requires numerous building blocks and tools. It is a discipline that involves the application of mathematics and science to come up with tangible and practical results to solve concrete problems and scenarios. The objective of this essay is to explain why I chose why I decided to major in Electrical engineering and why I settled on MMU university as my school of choice to pursue the course.
What is Electrical Engineering?
Electrical engineering is a field of engineering that was discovered as an identifiable occupation back in the 19th century. This is after the commercialization of the telephone, telegraph, and electrical power generation. It is generally a discipline that involves the study, design, and application of equipment that uses electricity, electronics, and electromagnetism. This discipline is further divided into a variety of other disciplines that include but not limited to computer engineering, power engineering, telecommunications, and radio frequency engineering among a host of other fields (Johnson, 2018).
Why choose Electrical Engineering?
Growing up, I was always fascinated with electronics and found myself taking a special interest in them. For example, I used to wonder how TV and the FM radio worked. Sometimes, I would take a screwdriver and open up an FM radio to try and unravel the mystery that lied inside it. The piano was also another electrical instrument that made me develop a strong urge for knowledge on electrical appliances. After I was through with High school, I felt a strong urge to study Electrical engineering since it was evident that it was my passion, and I immediately enrolled for the course.
Other reasons for studying Electrical Engineering
Marketable
Electrical engineers are almost always guaranteed of jobs since almost everything rotates around electricity and electrical appliances. Employers are constantly hunting for new minds that they can mold to their specific needs and turn them to experts. Apart from one’s home country, electrical engineers can also be able to work abroad, considering that laws of maths and physics are almost universal and, as such, are not limited to one country (Johnson, 2018).
Numerous fields
Once you are an electrical engineer, one can cover tens of specialization and will not only be limited to just designing electric circuits. This means that the discipline is very flexible, and one can try out many areas of the discipline (Johnson, 2018).
Why choose MMU University for the course?
MMU University is a chartered university that offers mainly offers Bachelor of Science degrees in Telecommunication and Information Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Electronic and Computer Engineering, among many other courses. The institution is known for producing highly skilled and competent graduates every year who immediately embark on filling the gaps in the job market. Apart from the highly qualified lecturers, the institution also boasts of modern and state of the art pieces of equipment and laboratories. It is also located in a serene and conducive environment for learning. Many of the graduates from this institution are absorbed in both the private and public sectors.
Additionally, the fees are very competitive, and those who cannot be able to pay in lump sum are allowed to do so in installments. For those completely unable, there are HELB loans that cater for the whole of their studies. These students are allowed to clear the loans once they get permanent employment.
