Electronic gadgets and the e-waste
In all the electronic devices and gadgets, there consist of chemicals that make the gadgets, and these chemicals are said to be toxic to the environment and people in general. Electronic gadgets are of massive importance to us, but the problem that comes is the toxic chemicals that they emit. For example, the laptops’ batteries contain metals, which include nickel, cadmium, mercury, and nickel-metal hydride. These substances are toxic when they are disposed of carelessly to the environment. They leak into the surrounding environment and cause pollution.
This, however, is influenced by many factors, such as the quantity and the time length of the batteries. If they are disposed at huge numbers, they tend to cause adverse effects to the environment as they leak at high concentrations. The life span is also a core factor as it dictates how long the batteries take to decompose. This is the main problem as they do not decompose quickly, and this to continuous pollution.
To reduce this pollution, people can dispose of the batteries properly by recycling them and not throwing in the sea or burying them. This will help to reduce the rate of toxic emissions to the environment and thus reduce pollution.
Question 10
There are many effects of improper disposal of e-waste on the environment and to the people’s health. Firstly it causes soil contamination as the toxic chemicals leak into the soil, and this reduces its properties. This makes the soil to be unfertile, and it leads to a reduction in food production.
The e-waste is harmful to human and animal health as it may cause diseases such as cancer and skin diseases. This happens when the animals and humans eat food produced in the contaminated land or drink water from polluted water sources, and this causes the emergence of these harmful diseases. Corporate social responsibility would be of massive assistance to this problem as the relationship between the companies and the community at large will ensure that the toxic waste is not disposed of poorly as it will also affect the companies running as well.
Question 11
For instance, I notice that e-waste is being dumped in the environment will present the issue to the public as a whistle-blower. But first, I will have to follow several steps to be able to be successful in my mission. These steps include getting evidence to support my claims. This is the most essential and crucial step as it has to be genuine and real so that the people believe and not just some makeup story. This will include pictures and videos of the e-waste being dumped in the land.
The other step is to find the right legal authority to present this evidence I have gathered so that they can have a look at it and be able also to do their research. The government authorities should be in the field of the environment sector. After presenting my evidence, the government investigates the matter to clarify if I was correct with my information.
The final step is the overall decision of the government. This is the one that determines whether I was correct or whether the government found my evidence vague. If it were genuine, the culprits would be prosecuted by the court of law.
