engineered food is a combination of different food grown in different places
Andrew Kimbrell argues that American citizens deserve to know what’s in the food they eat. He states that genetically engineered food is made of different materials than the original on engineered food. He debates that the public needs to be notified of the ingredients or materials used to make the engineered products. Lack of labeling in the engineered food with the claim that they have not been proven safe is not a good reason to despise the public concern. Andrew achieves his purpose to successfully support that genetically engineered food should be labeled to allow the public to know what they consume. He states that engineered food is a combination of different food grown in different places with the use of different chemicals hence the food engineering method may result in the consumption of unhealthy food or food poisoning.
Most people eat food not only to get satisfied but also to eat a balanced diet meal. In most cases, genetically engineered food is grown with a lot of chemicals that increase yields and some control pests. The writer brings out the concept of the chemicals altering the composition or the nutrients value of the foods where he notes that the increased use of herbicides alters the composition of the food. The main use of genetic engineering crops is to change the crops so that they can withstand a lot of chemicals used when they are grown. The increase in herbicides results in water and air pollution thus creating a big problem in food that leads to more toxic deposits in our foods. The toxic substances alter the value of nutrients in the foods which leads to people consuming more chemicals and fewer nutrients in the foods. The author advises the consumer to know the content of the foods they are buying and consuming. The author encourages producers to label the foods and clearly state the composition of the food they are producing. Therefore through labels, the consumers will be able to read and know the composition of what they eat and thus they will be able to make a choice on what to eat and what not to eat. Even if the food producing companies argue that the food they produce has not yet been declared not safe for consumption, the writer still argues in the need to put labels on the food produced.
In conclusion labeling on the engineered food is necessary to enable the public to make choices on what to eat. The ability to choose enables consumers to eat balanced meals and also make a choice between quality and quantity while buying foods. The authors achieve the goal of convincing the reader on the importance of knowing what they eat. The knowledge will help them to choose healthy food and live healthy. DNA change in a plant can occur as a result of an insignificant alteration on the chemical used to promote plant growth or add nutrients to the plant. I encourage the American authority to establish regal rules to control genetic engineering and if possible close all the production of all genetically engineered food.
