Letter to the editor titled Justice Is About More Than the Killing of George Floyd retrieved from https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/01/opinion/george-floyd-police-protests.html
The argument that was raised by the writer was that over the years, police brutality based on racial discrimination has continued to rise, and there is nothing been done to stop it. Over time many innocent people have been killed by police officers on the bases of their race the latest case being that of George Floyd. Racial profiling and brutality towards black people are becoming a national issue as racial brutality is being spread over different states, and it is time for the government to stop racist killer police officers.
The main argument of the article is the is that even with enough proof of the existence of racial profiling and killing of black people by the police, the government is doing nothing to stop these brutalities. Even after several cases being raised about the illegal killing of black people, there has not been any police officer prosecuted or imprisoned. Due to the lack of any action taken on the racist police officers, it has encouraged the continuity of brutality.
The reason behind choosing the art piece that I used was to illustrate those police officers in today’s world has become brutal, killing black people without thinking twice. Racist police officers are now using black people as shooting targets as they have no regard towards them as they do not view them as a human being. It is sad to see that those people vested with the power and authorities to serve and protect every citizen equally are now on the frontline encouraging racial discrimination.
The art piece that I used illustrates how racial discrimination is affecting the country with police turning into a trigger happy criminals who see black people as nobodies. In all cases, including the latest instance of George Floyd, it has always been a white police officer against a black person which is a sad thing as all humans are equal and should be treated as so. It is high time that the government takes action on racist police officers and stop racial profiling, discrimination, and brutality.
