Entrepreneurship skills
Entrepreneurship skills and employability is a critical component in academic studies. However, it is difficult to understand and develop self-efficacy from the classroom theoretical approaches; therefore, institutions apply the use of role-playing, business simulation, and practical training to achieve the necessary competencies. As a scholar, we engaged in a young enterprise course, which not only broke the boredom but also enabled us to acquire teamwork skills and confidence in operational activities. The venture also allows learners to actualize the learning, thereby improving the retention capacity of the skillset. The paper aims to shed light on the role Young Enterprise has played in career and professional development.
The venture has promoted the acquisition of various professional concepts and expertise. Being a marketing director has exposed me to the different managerial requirements necessary for running an organization. Emotional intelligence is the ability to understand people’s emotions and apply relevant management competence to successfully oversee goals achievement (Ataç, Dirik, and Tetik, 2018). The venture has equipped me with emotional intelligence, which is applicable in the future to maintain healthy working relations and an overriding winning spirit for a firm. According to the situational leadership approach, leaders or organizational managers should apply different leadership styles depending on the situation. The enterprise helped me to acquire relevant employability skills such as listening, leadership, interpersonal skills, and negotiation, communication, and adaptability competencies.
Decision making and contract signing is a core competence acquired from the enterprise. Businesses often face moments of critical reflection and weighing options to make decisions (Barratt‐Pugh, Hodge, and Smith, 2020). The venture enables me to reflect on various situations in the real world and apply my learned skills to make crucial business decisions. The success of enterprises is pegged on the ability to make decisions and initiate significant business contracts. The venture, therefore, acted as a useful tool in assessing my skills and streamline areas of weakness.
Young enterprise has encouraged enjoyment and cooperation in studies. Life without friends, partners, or rivals can be quite unmanageable; therefore, a sense of humor and fun in the corporate world is initiated through the venture. Since there is a myriad of risks in the marketplace, the enterprise has taught me the need to break the ice by collaboration, a little bit of compromise, or avoiding specific wanting issues to ensure corporate success (Crowley, Farren, and Súilleabháin, 2017. As a director in the enterprise, I realize the need to remain calm even under challenging situations, particularly when implementing significant strategies that attract resistance from the team.
The venture taught me stress management and managing various life pressures. Apart from being a professional, people have other responsibilities such as family, personal business, further studies, marriage, or even political commitments. Since stress and job pressures are inevitable, the venture taught me the need to manage stress by communicating with peers or allowing time for self-reflection and recollection. Lack of self-esteem and confidence in the workplace can overwhelm a person to lack ample adaptability skills (Bocciardi et al., 2017). The venture played a significant role in exposing the need to believe in my capacities and utilize all available resources to learn as much as possible to avoid future pressures and manage stress.
The enterprise helped me in handling risks and achieving job satisfaction. The modern-day labor market is marred with several risks such as sexual harassment, mistreatment, unfair dismissal, and lack of payments (Henry, 2020. The venture taught me the need to understand the theoretical concepts and put things into perspective, like risks and emergencies. As a director and team player, I realized the need to remain active in different roles and remain enthusiastic at work. Lack of motivation or poor work performance attracts risks and ethical considerations. The enterprise helped me review the potential risks at work and how to handle each one in the future while maintaining high levels of integrity.
In conclusion, the venture has taught me the various ethical considerations and how to maintain the utmost integrity at work. Lack of integrity compromises one reputation and risks the loss of a job or license to operate in certain professions (Nisula and Pekkola, 2016). Team playing and active participation in significant operations help boost confidence and promote the quick achievement of goals. The course has increased the high retention of classwork knowledge and helped acquire relevant skills needed in the real world markets. The learning has equipped the team with applicable stress mitigation techniques and management of work-related risks.
