ePortfolio Artifact and Reflection: Quality and Regulatory Outcome
The 21st century has been affected a lot by innovations and development in technology. The extend of the effect of technology in this era has affected almost all sector of the economies of the country. The healthcare sector has been one of the most affected areas in the economy today. The different sectors of the healthcare system that has been affected include, the privacy of information and the use of technology in hospitals, the implications of social media in its application in the healthcare systems and the importance of technology in the evaluation of performance in healthcare. These reasons are qualified to insist on researching the impacts of technology in the healthcare systems.
Information security policy
The use of technology kin most healthcare systems has resulted in the creation of the need to create different policies to improve the security of patient information in hospitals. A series of laws and policies have been designed to ensure that the information that is kept by healthcare systems. The following policies have been established to protect the information that is available on digital platforms.
The sanction policy
The sanction policy provides that the workers of a particular institution are required to ensure the availability, confidentiality and integrity of sensitive information. The main aim of this law is to create restrictions for individuals who want to access confidential information. The policy describes sensitive information as any form of health information that is found in protected files, any personal information, payroll data, as well as any type of financial records that are kept by institutions. The policy ensures that sanctions are applied to protect this form of data. Unauthorized access to these files is liable to punishment ranging from a verbal reprimand to a criminal penalty.
Discovery Policy: Production and Disclosure
The policy dictates that organization are required to produce or disclose any relevant information as prescribed by laws, agreements and court proceeding that were used in the creation of the policy. The privacy and security officer is vital in the disclosing and producing protected information of an organization. The policy indicates the step by step process that is used in guiding the production and disclosure of any information that is related to e-discovery.
e-Discovery Policy: Retention
The policy controls how the different organizations maintain important information that’s is related to the healthcare system in compliance with governments and other regulations. The primary purpose of this policy is to help the authorities in the collection of essential health data for employees of organizations. This policy controls the ownership of the data and the authorization of use and destruction of the data. The owner of data is required to consent to the removal of the information that is stored in the database.
Negative implications of social media on healthcare systems
The research demonstrated the negative consequences that social media platforms have on the healthcare system. The study detailed the security implications of the data of patients and other relevant information that is shared on social media. The investigation raised concern about the use of criminal practices on the internet, such as hacking, to gain access to protected information for malicious reasons. The research questions the ethical abilities of medical professionals who use social media platforms for advertising and competing against each other for clients. Benson & Morgan (2015), argue that social media plays a significant role in the way professionals in the medical field use their time. The author urges that most doctors and clinical professionals spend a lot of time advertising their businesses and doing consulting online than saving the lives of sick patients in hospitals. This compromises their professional obligations.
According to research, social media limits the ability to control the privacy of valuable information as laid by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). This has led to the questioning of the actual extent that medical professionals can release relevant data on social media for sharing. This means that if doctors are to strictly use social media, they have to follow the regulations as spelt out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Chisolm (2018) mentions about the correspondence of information that is provided by medical practitioners on social platforms and what is to be kept professional. Medical officials using social media or working in social media promote less to saving lives as compared to what they are meant to do. This, according to research, creates an emphasis on the use of social media by medical professionals and why the act should be discouraged.
Performance validation
The research provides a brief overview of the process of performance validation. The fundamental steps of carrying about an analysis of the evaluation of performance, according to the artefact, is divided into different stages.
The initial step involves the analysis of the needs of the organization. This is identified through the study of the objectives and goals of the organizations. The artefact indicates the importance of providing facts about the organization and ranking each of the goals that have been collected by priority (Van de Poel, Van Dyk, Gasiorek & Blockmans, 2015). The process is simultaneously followed by the analysis of the skills and the knowledge and attitudes of the employees who are working at the organization. This process is done depending on the amount of time that is available. The artefact establishes that the process can be divided into different steps to ease the complexity. It is important to consider information that may prove important to the future progress of the organization.
The precedent steps mainly involve the study of the collected data, including forecasts and its importance to the organization. Van de Poel et al. (2015), indicates the need for using analytical skills to perform practical need assessment. During this stage, the author describes the need to assess the existing performance gaps and the performance of the employees at the moment. The results that re-obtained in this step are used in the final step. The entire evaluation process is finalized through the identification of performance gaps within the organization. The main work of the organization at this time is to establish the challenges that employees face and use them to conclude to fill the gaps. Nasir, Mahmood, Shaikh, & Shaikh (2015), indicates that the process of performance evaluation is very critical in creating systems that meet the demands of the users and hence better results.
