This assignment will talk about nursing research and its importance to nursing practice. Clinical nursing research is research that guides the nursing practice. The importance of nursing research is that it helps improve the health and quality of life of patients. Research is an integral component of the nursing profession because it helps solve healthcare professionals’ problems in their work. It is important to use evidence-based practice (EBP) in our research because EBP involves using the best clinical evidence to make patient care decisions.
Nurses now have a responsibility to be aware of the importance of research to the nursing profession. Therefore every nurse must ensure that they can conduct research that can be used to better the nursing profession. Nurses must be aware of the data collection methods available to nurses, such as qualitative and quantitative methods. Quantitative data is usually obtained through questionnaires, survey while qualitative involves data obtained focus groups, discussions and interviews. Nurses need to be aware of when to use such methods in their research, and some methods are better suited for some research and not others. Nurses must play a crucial role in research since they can engage in one or more roles along a continuum of research participation such as they can help develop an idea for a clinical study. The other roles nurses can play include providing information or advice to clients about their participation in studies.
Literature reviews are an important component that nurses must engage in because it helps develop evidence-based practice. The nurses must be aware of the importance of literature reviews because it helps inspire new research ideas essential to the nursing profession. Therefore clinical nurses, faculty, nurses and nursing students need to know how important research is the nursing profession.
