Ethical Decision Making
What are the implications of this ethical vision for every arena of your life. We are “whole people.” Our inner thoughts, our relationships with those closest to us, our voluntary communities, our work responsibilities – all matter when it comes to a life of ethical integrity. Do you want to be “One person,” as distinct from being one kind of person in this sphere and another kind of person in another sphere? (Integrity means “whole” or “undivided.”) _ Questions you may want to ask: What ethical dilemmas am I facing right now? What dilemmas do I anticipate in my work arena? What am I passionate about that touches a human need in my world or the society as a whole? What might this passion lead to in terms of action, questioning, pushback, or suffering…? What issues from the text and readings do I need to digest more as it relates to human flourishing and the ethical reasoning process? It is essential to read the “Code of Ethics” for your current or projected career area. (Every occupation has a code of ethics that helps to guide and provide excellence and accountability.) _Any healthy organization has a Vision and Mission Statement. What might your personal ‘Ethical Vision Statement’ look like? Write it down. Reflect on it and revise it. Keep it to one sentence you can memorize. Your ‘final’ statement may come AFTER you have done the work on your essay!
