Ethical Dilemma

Step 1: Assessment

The ethical dilemma does abide by the law, and the provision is that such an action is illegal and unacceptable. The provision of the PMI code of ethics and professional conduct categorizes the dilemma as unethical and should not be practiced. In addition, the dilemma goes against the employer’s code of ethics and conduct. The dilemma goes against individual ethical values and the surrounding culture.

Step 2: Alternatives

The possible alternative is not to give the bribe to the government officials regarding the lucrative deal. However, the competitors will be willing to give the bribe and have the upper hand in being awarded the business deal. The company stands to lose financial benefits if it does not give the bribe but will maintain its integrity and confidence.

Step 3: Analysis

The decision made will have a positive impact as it will keep the reputation and integrity of the company intact, and potential clients will want to engage the company for future projects. The decision has taken into account the cultural differences in the country and still not acceptable generally to give bribes in order to be awarded deals in the country. It is illegal in the first place.

Step 4: Application

The choice of not giving a bribe in order to be awarded the business deal will result in the greatest good. I would expect others to treat me as such so that there is fairness while doing business. This would ensure that the most qualified company is the one which wins the deal and not just because of bribing, which is unethical and goes against the code of conduct and professional conduct.  The choice is, therefore, fair to all the concerned parties, both those businesses that have the capacity to bribe and those which do not. The choice also observes professionalism and expectations in the observance of the laws guiding businesses.

Step 5: Action

Making the decision of not giving out a bribe in order to get the business deal is the best decision one would take. There will be no guilt about it, and no one will be against it as long as legal processes and provisions are concerned. It is a decision that one can make it public and just feel comfortable about it in case the public and other stakeholders inquire why the company never won the business deal. As the decision-maker, I am more than ready to take the steps and make the decision without a second thought.
