ethics is concerned with what the society or individual finds appropriate
According to Northouse (2018), ethics is concerned with what the society or individual finds appropriate. Besides, ethical theories give systems of principles or rules that are crucial in guiding people as far as the decision-making process is concerned. Through the ethical theories, we learn issues about what is right or wrong in a given circumstance. Today, firms no longer view themselves as independent of others. Instead, they are part of each other based on government, business, and schools, among others. As a result, every company should consider all external factors in their business strategies since these factors have both direct and direct impacts on the company’s activities. For example, companies should not be solely focused on their profit-maximization objectives and forget about their social responsibilities.
Through social responsibilities, the company is tasked to act ethically for the benefit of the community. Such a social, ethical strategy will enhance a company’s brand and create a harmonious environment with society. I believe that significant management plans should provide “worst-case scenarios” in which they have a strategy to deal with ethical issues in case they occur. Such plans would be possible if the company adds an emergency plan for its strategic business plan. Also, every company should incorporate an emergency plan into every employee handbook. Such a measure will ensure that there is a specific way of dealing with the issue if it occurs. As a manager, I will deal with ethical issues by utilizing ethical theories regarding ethics. These theories will help me understand the situation and come up with the most suitable solution. Through ethical theories, I will be able to deal with such issues as “what is the fair thing to do?” and “How will the decision affect other people?” among many other problems. One way of increasing ethical practices within a diverse workgroup is leading by example. Managers should act as the best example of employees by sticking to what is moral, both in business and society.
